In this were two interesting points
"Jet Airways intends to build on this success and will launch 12 new international flights by the end of the year. These destinations include Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Doha, Singapore, Ho Chi Minh City and Bangkok. The airline also has long term plans for non-stop operations to Europe and China using the most advanced and efficient wide-body aircraft. The organic network expansion coupled with enhanced global connectivity through codeshares is expected to increase international passenger traffic significantly."
"Jet Airways will make a further major announcement on the next initiative in its three year turnaround plan at a media conference later today."
Press conference on right now as per 9w website |

This is all typically NB territory for 9W - or are they now looking at WBs?

Long term => after a couple of months/ quarters or years? _________________ We miss you Nalini! |

Just read in HT that Jet Airways is dumping its Jet Lite brand. A classic case of what had previously happened with Delta's Song, United's TED, and & Air Canada's Tango. They all couldn't figure out how to shed fixed costs.

All narrow body - actually what interested me is the cities they have planned additions to.
AUH expansion is repeatedly to be from 4 additional India points,
Dxb - they have one announced from Cok and as per member avbuff, another bom Dxb
Doha - none announced - interesting to see whether it's another AUH tag on or a 2nd daily bom Doha
Singapore - again no announcements thus far - intriguingly the late evening Bom sin bom flights are retimed - leaving Sin at 1915 (currently 2015) and leaving bom at 0120 (currently at 0030). I don't know whether it means a 3rd daily bom sin is on the cards
Sgn and bkk have been announced

My guess is that if they are waiting for 789s, they are a few years away |

Id say it will be
1. DEL-BKK-SGN (announced, starting 5th Nov)
2. BOM-BKK (announced, starting 5th Nov)
3. BOM-CMB (announced)
4. COK DXB (announced, starting 5th Nov)
5. BOM DXB (as per member avbuff inference)
6. PNQ-AUH (as per 9W press conference)
7. AMD-AUH (as per 9W press conference)
8. GOI-AUH (as per 9W press conference)
9. LKO-AUH (as per 9W press conference)
10. XXX-DOH (XXX could either be BOM-DOH 2nd daily or COK-AUH-DOH or indeed CCJ-DOH)
11. XXX-SIN (where XXX could be 3rd daily BOM SIN or 3rd daily DEL SIN)
12. XXX-AUH-BAH/RUH (9W does have rights on a 2nd daily RUH flight as well as a 2nd daily BAH flight which they operated previously)
BTW, one small change they have made from the winter schedule.
the AUH-DMM flight now originates in HYD (MAA in the summer schedule) while the AUH-KWI flight now originates in MAA (COK in the summer schedule) |

I suppose when they have COK - DOH already, they would not go for a COK-AUH-DOH. Me thinks this could be CCJ - DOH or IXE - AUH - DOH or even maybe one of the liested AUH flights could go onwards to DOH.
Also as to SIN ... can there be a new point in India to SIN? Or do they have to stick to existing points? |

Me thinks 2nd Daily BOM-DOH, considering as they were close to launching it last year. CCJ-DOH might see a re-entry, unless they intend to add 2 new flights to DOH.
PNQ/AMD/GOI/LKO - AUH is a given. Hopefully it isn't going to sit around there.
I'm thinking a BLR-SIN is possible (?) _________________ |

Referencing post I had shared where the government had put out the routes they have approved (in the sarkar in aviation thread) it's possible that there are 3 new routes to Doha - from MAA, HYD AND LKO (latter most likely via AUH I guess) |

Pilot asleep, co-pilot on tab, Jet flight drops 5,000 feet
Aug 14, 2014
A Jet Airways aircraft winging its way from Mumbai to Brussels last Friday suddenly dropped 5,000 feet in the Ankara airspace over Turkey. The commander of the Boeing 777 aircraft was taking 'controlled rest', which means a nap as per rules. The aviation regulator is now probing if the co-pilot too had dozed off.
The co-pilot, who was supposed to hold fort in the cockpit, claims she was busy on her tablet and did not notice that the aircraft had lost altitude. It took a call from an alarmed Ankara ATC, asking why 9W-228 had moved away from its assigned flight level of 34,000 feet, for the situation to be rectified.
European ATCs in particular have become very particular about watching aircraft sticking to their flight path in this extra-sensitive region. Other aircraft had been assigned the flight level at which Jet's B-777-300 had descended to.
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) got to know about this incident on Tuesday when its joint DG Lalit Gupta got an anonymous SMS about the "level burst", or uncontrolled descent.
In its emergency communication, Ankara ATC asked the Jet aircraft to immediately ascend to 32,000 feet as this region's airspace has become very busy in recent days with airlines avoiding countries such as Iraq and Ukraine. The co-pilot immediately woke up the commander and he yoked the aircraft to 32,000 feet.
On Tuesday evening, Jet confirmed the incident to Lalit Gupta, who is in charge of flight safety in DGCA. DGCA summoned both the commander and the co-pilot on Wednesday to initiate a probe into what has been termed as a "serious incident". The two have been grounded pending investigation.

I wonder what the co-pilot was doing on the tablet that kept her so engrossed

And interestingly Jet Airways did not find it important enough to inform DGCA immediately about the level burst and if other reports are to be believed, the pilots continued to be on roster.
But then someone sneaked thankfully.
Actually these "sneaking" is required for everyone's benefit. CHIRP is running in UK for a long time. |

DGCA orders audit of Jet’s pilot training
Aug 15, 2014
The DGCA on Thursday said it was treating the altitude drop by the Mumbai-Brussels Jet Airways flight as a full-scale accident, to be probed by the Accident Investigation Bureau (AIB).
It will also hold an audit of Jet's pilot training programme within a fortnight, since both pilots did not respond to the blaring alarms in the cockpit that would have gone off when the aircraft dropped the initial 700 ft. Both pilots have denied hearing the alarm to DGCA.
While DGCA has officially said flight 9W-228 plunged 5,000 feet on August 8 while overflying Turkey, Mirror has learnt that the Flight Commander, Captain Aseem Walyani and First Officer, Captain Gitanjali Parelkar have told DGCA during investigation that the drop was 2,300 feet when an Ankara radar controller radioed them with the warning.
According to the pilots, while Walyani was utilising his controlled rest period, Parelkar, who was at controls, was doing some reading. Both denied hearing the cockpit alarm, which is programmed to go off if an aircraft cruising on auto-pilot descends by over 700 feet. DGCA officials were told the aircraft was at 34,000 feet when it started descending suddenly.
"While we thought there might have been an accidental push of the vertical navigation (V-NAV) switch, the pilots said the aircraft did the 'level-burst on its own' and suggested that a Boeing service bulletin on previous instances of unexplained altitude drop be taken into consideration," a DGCA official said. However, the duo couldn't explain how they did not hear the caution alarm.
DGCA chief Prabhat Kumar said, "The descent by almost 5,000 feet over Turkey is viewed as a serious incident. Both pilots have been taken off the roster pending inquiry. They were also summoned on Wednesday to DGCA and questioned."
Kumar further said a three-member team had been appointed to conduct an audit of Jet Airways' pilot training programme to find out whether there were any shortcomings in their training. The team has been asked to submit its report by August 31.
"Additionally, the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau has been asked to conduct a detailed investigation into the incident, which would take four to five months. Following this, it would be possible to determine the quantum of penalty, if at all, for the pilots," a DGCA statement said.
Jet Airways sources said both were senior pilots. While Capt Walyani had clocked close to 14,000 flying hours and was recently appointed as a check-pilot for evaluating trainees, Capt Parelkar has been with the airline for about eight years.
Jet Airways' flight safety head, Capt Naveen Malkani, who accompanied the pilots to the DGCA headquarters in New Delhi, told investigators that the pilots had sent an email to the airline immediately after landing in Brussels on August 8.
The pilots denied trying to hide the incident, saying the first thing they did upon landing was make an entry in the deck log report, maintained on board the aircraft. "Capt Walyani said he was to operate a Brussels-Toronto-Brussels flight (9W 230), and hence decided to first complete that leg and then file the mandatory flight safety report within the specified 48-hour period," a DGCA official said. |

DGCA to investigate Jet Airways aborted takeoff amid fire warning
News
15-Aug-2014 9:48 AM
India's Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) said it is investigating a fire warning on a Jet Airways service from Delhi which led to its pilots abandoning a takeoff on 14-Aug-2014 (Economic Times/PTI, 14-Aug-2014). Pilots noticed the fire warning on the ATR 72 turbo prop's cockpit panel when flight 9W 2654 was about to take off around 05:45. The panel indicated fire on the right engine. None of the 70 people on board was injured. Terming the event as precautionary in nature, Jet Airways said: "The ATR aircraft has since been grounded at Delhi for inspection by the Jet Airways engineering staff. All the guests were deplaned safely and taken back to the terminal building without any event". |

That is a good deal. Going by bus would cost that much for a 14-16 hour journey. |
