Deb, there are 5 of these (if not 6 - near the JAL tail in a weird orientation): which is the fifth one, and is it also there for a similar purpose?

The above are two different images (sorry about posting them where they look like one with 6 tails).

Here, (inside) we have VT-ANA, VT-ANB, VT-ANC.

Here (outside) we have VT-ANE.

Besides these 4 (VT-ANA, VT-ANB, VT-ANC, VT-ANE; accounted for above), the other Air India 787s at KPAE are VT-ANG (not in pic) and VT-ANN (currently at the Paris Air Show).

At Charleston we have VT-ANM (delivery ready) and VT-ANO (being painted at Ft. Worth; soon to be back in CHS).

The next Air India 787 will be VT-ANP, to be built at Charleston.

How stupid of me to think of it this way...I guess I have had a hard day, and need to go home now. Thanks for the clarification, and...all the lovely information, that you keep us enthralled with!
Cheers, Sumantra.

So this would be the first 787 to be delivered to AI after the grounding order was withdrawn, correct?

An ET 787 just caught fire at LHR. Looks like the issues aren't over yet.

Yes you are.
If you look up to Part I of this thread (or perhaps even the early pages of part II), you'll see that the early build 787s for AI had Star Alliance logos applied. These were not removed during storage at KPAE, but will be when they are delivered.

It is nice to see a non-CHS build be `readied'. Second, let us hope (against hope) that the *A decals do not need to be taken out Smile

Isn't AI supposed to be starting it's Australia services with the 787s this Friday?

As far as I know, yes. Unless ANN/ANO come in quickly, the Dream)liner utilisation will be a bit tight, and one current domestic Dream)liner route may get the A332, which will then be based in Delhi. The loads on some routes currently, are beyond the capacity of an A321.
Cheers, Sumantra.

Glad this happened pre-delivery! Man the 787 seems like a albatross around the neck of airlines. Horrible experience. And the supposed cost benefits must be completely negated with the costs of managing all the disruptions and downtime.

Seems like AI will be taking KPAE built VT-ANE and ANG. Both of them have their engines slung on and seem to be undergoing testing.

Of course they will, but the question is when. These are next in line to be delivered, but we have no indication when.

As Sumantra alluded to earlier, expect the fuel burns and cargo on the Australia runs to stabilize as newer 787s continue to enter the fleet.

Good signs.
