Oh lord - what's with these flip flops? And with Mantri-ji off to London on a "personal vacation" - I wonder if the AI mgmt will break the impasse around the IPG strike. Hopefully they will get past the strike and get to work soon. _________________ We miss you Nalini! |

The ones already trained will stay on the 787 - it's just that no more pilots will start training until futher notice

That's not going to happen until they give up their idiotic stand of refusing talks. Now that this has been going on for so long, I think both sides are tired enough to be able to talk this out successfully. But the talks need to happen in the first place... _________________ Editor of AeroBlogger |

Places, if I remember correctly. After the states and union territories are completed, they will start with cities. |
I am given to believe that the convention of naming airplanes will cease with the introduction of the 787s. They were intended to be named, however the absence of painted names on the 8 painted 787s seems to confirm this view.

Thanks a lot, @747-237! No names - is this by any chance, related to the ICPA-IPG issue? ICPA-operated planes have never had names.
Cheers, Sumantra. |

VT-AND (N10230) & VT-ANH (N1020L) left KPAE today, perhaps for the last time; and have been ferried to CHS for storage, with the other "delivery ready" 787, VT-ANI.

Boeing South Carolina has rolled out it's second 787, ZA238/LN 54 last night. This is also Air India's second SC built 787, presumably to be registered VT-ANJ.
ZA238/LN 54 is yet to be painted.
There are now four Air India 787s on the Charleston flight line :
VT-AND (N10230) - Everett built
VT-ANH (N1020L) - Everett built
VT-ANI - Charleston built
VT-ANJ (??) - Charleston built
Here they are, together this afternoon:

Lovely picture @747-237, thanks for sharing this with us!
I know why the engines are white, but at the risk of sounding too naive, why is the tail fin different from all others - without the Air India titles? The tail fin is not that thin. For different tails, Air India have some subtle modifications, some of which look nice, some, not-so-nice e.g., the CR7 `masked bandits', the ATR-42, the A32S, the 332s and the earlier A310s, and the 777s.
Cheers, Sumantra. |

There are 5 Air India 787s at this time at Everett: VT-ANA, VT-ANB, VT-ANC, VT-ANE, VT-ANG. I believe all of these are sans engines. _________________ 11000 posts (and counting) on Airliners-India.

Normally an exciting -proposition to see the Flag Carrier acquiring the latest aircraft, upgrading it's hardware. It normally promises better service and higher returns, more profitability. This would have then been promoted well before the aircraft are received.
The the story is not as per the above script. Can the Govt. privatise the airline and hopefully give it a serious shot to pull it all together is the much flogged question. |

VT-ANJ was involved in a minor incidence at CHS yesterday.

Boeing Dreamliner mishap prompts airport runway closure, flight delays
July 29, 2012
Debris from a brand new Boeing 787 Dreamliner's engine fell onto the runway and into the grass at Charleston International Airport Saturday afternoon, sparking a fire, shutting down the airport and diverting flights for more than an hour.
“A 787 experienced an engine issue today while undergoing preflight runway testing in North Charleston,” Boeing SC spokeswoman Candy Eslinger said Saturday night.
The gravity of the mishap spurred an investigation by the National Transportation Safety Board, Eslinger added.
“After the investigation, we will determine what went wrong and come up with a remedy,” she said.
The unpainted 787 involved in the incident was the latest one built at the sprawling Boeing campus in North Charleston, Eslinger said. General Electric made the engine that was installed in the plane, she said.
No one was injured in the mid-afternoon incident, and it will not affect production, Eslinger said.
Charleston Air Force Base, which owns the runways that are jointly used by the airport, declared a ground emergency at 4:07 p.m. when a grass fire erupted on the airfield, Air Force spokeswoman Rose Alexander said.
Emergency crews then discovered metal debris on the approach to the airport's only operational runway and ordered it shut down to complete a sweep of the 7,000-foot landing strip, Alexander said.
The airport's main 9,000-foot runway is out of commission as it undergoes a complete overhaul over the next few months.
“Our folks came to look at the debris to see if it was from a military aircraft,” Alexander said. “It was not from one of our C-17s.”
The shutdown caused two flights to be diverted, airport spokeswoman Becky Beaman said.
A Mesa Air flight for US Airways from Charlotte and a Shuttle America flight for Delta from Detroit were diverted to Savannah, spokesmen for US Airways and Delta confirmed Saturday. Both flights later arrived in Charleston.
The incident also affected a Southwest flight on takeoff at 4:04 p.m.
The pilot reported striking something on the runway, according to Southwest spokesman Brad Hawkins. The flight landed in Nashville, Tenn., as a precaution to be checked out. Nothing wrong was found, and it continued on to Chicago, he said.
“(The debris) did not come off of our airplane,” Hawkins said.
The airport closed around 4:30 p.m. and reopened at 5:41 p.m., Beaman, the airport spokeswoman, said. _________________ 11000 posts (and counting) on Airliners-India.

Next time, Boeing should probably teach them a lesson by not bidding at all. Much better than the Nuisance that follows. But then, DK being such a sycophantic personality, nothing will change. |

Delivery of Boeing 787 Approved
03-August, 2012
CCEA Decision
The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs has approved the proposal of Ministry of Civil Aviation as per following:
(i) Air India be allowed to take the delivery of 27 numbers of B-787 aircraft after signing the Delay Compensation Settlement Agreement.
(ii) The issue relating to compensation for failure to meet performance guarantees has been delinked from the Delay Compensation Settlement Agreement, which shall be negotiated separately by an Empowered Group of Officers after actual evaluation of the performance of the delivered/inducted B-787 aircraft. The Ministry of Law & Justice would examine and endorse the enabling legal provisions / aspects of the negotiations.
Air India would derive the benefits on account of the induction of the latest state-of-art technology Boeing aircraft which are more fuel efficient than its’ competitors.
Background:
Air India is planning to induct 27 numbers 787 aircrafts in its fleet as part of the contracted deliveries of the aircraft from M/s. Boeing. These aircrafts were scheduled to be delivered from September, 2008 to October 2011. However, due to certain design / production issues these aircraft have been delayed and are now scheduled to be delivered between June, 2012 to March, 2016.

“Air India will take delivery of three Dreamliners in August and the remaining by March 2016,” said a senior Air India executive, on condition of anonymity. It will have six by December and eight by the end of March, he said.
