True. But try telling that to the Hindi-belt politicians. Frankly, I think that AI should mix up its fleet with titles in Tamil, Telugu, Gurmukhi script, etc., with the Air India in English being standard on all aircraft.

Yeah, that would be pretty cool. They could keep the long-haul planes in all English as they are often at non-Indian airports and have regional languages on the smaller planes that fly mostly domestic sectors.

But would it be possible to adapt the existing font in all these languages?

I'm sure a competent graphics designer could make the styles match.

The multi-lingual adaptations on small and medium hall fleets is indeed a good idea...but knowing India people will end up politicizing such a decision too.

I'd say the revision largely looks nicer thanks to:
- The Air India and the white strip dissappearing from the tail,
- THe Air India in either English or Hindi on the fuselage (the variation with other languages too would be interesting)
- the dissappearence of fussy cheat lines...

But I am not so fond of the tiny half sun motif on the engine as opposed to the older red engine nacelle - the chakra seen from below was a nice touch...Looks like this might be a 787 / Engine trait since other airlines' 787 seem to sport something smiliar...

I guess that is ANA in the above photo, as ANB still seems to be inside the hangar.

Air India's fourth 787, VT-AND is now in AI livery, along with ANA, ANB & ANC.
PS: Notice the Star Alliance Logo next to the Indian Flag - this is a first!

Are AI going to paint their engines in white or gray? AFAIK 787s promise increased fuel efficiency if the engines are of either one of these 2 uniform colours.

Why any Hindi titles at all?

Why can't AI just have English titles on BOTH sides of the aircraft. Simple. Classic. Won't offend anybody.

This silly one side Hindi thing has gone on long enough.

The REAL national language of India is English, not Hindi. It is the lingua franca of the business, medical, and political world in India. It is the thing that holds all of India together.

Most importantly, a good backbone of English is what distinguishes us from other countries, and has allowed us to shed the 3rd world status in the Nehru-Indira-Rajiv days and become the world economic collosus we are today.

I hope they add the AI titles on the tail if possible. The livery just looks incomplete without it.

I don't like the lack of cheat lines under the windows. Looks a bit too bland without it. Anyone know why that was taken off?

To maintain the Centre of Gravity. The aircraft may go nose up otherwise.

Agree, they should go back to that patti look on the tail, it will give it a nice finish, more appropriate to mass appeal.

So true, I think it was removed because someone is not intune with the mindset of the people.

Don't know what's being served there but I am sure you'll have to wait for ages for your order.

Perhaps you'll have to order food from the neighboring Euro-diner while you wait for the main course to arrive Wink?

Air India's sixth 787, VT-ANG (ZA235/LN32) is now undergoing final assembly.

Note:

- Air India is skipping the regn "VT-ANF", as the registration belongs to a Raytheon Beech 390 Premier 1, owned by M/S Force Motors Ltd. since 2005, hence the jump to VT-ANG after VT-ANE.

- Air India's seventh 787, VT-ANH (ZA236/LN35) starts Final Assembly tomorrow (Feb. 28th).

Here is VT-ANG.

The first Boeing 787 to be built in Charleston, SC was due for Air India, though the slower than expected production has made Airplane 46 now destined for United Airlines.

I did a Boeing factory tour this weekend. Saw at least 5 Air India 787s on the ramp. One interesting thing was that each of these 5 had the Star Alliance logo on it. Couldn't take any pictures from near and far range pictures I took couldn't capture the logo.

No, it just means that the 787s will be so delayed that even AI would have joined Star Alliance by then! Twisted Evil

hahahahah! LMAO! Laughing
on a more serious note; these 787's won't match the specs promised by boeing; range will be a little lesser than originally offered.
This is only for the first few (20???) 787's.
