Vistara becomes first airline in India to implement Amadeus' Altéa Suite technology

October 08, 2014

Vistara has partnered with Amadeus, a technology partner for the global travel industry, to implement the Amadeus Altéa Suite of technology solutions, stated a release. The Amadeus technology will power Vistara’s travel reservations, inventory management, airport departure control systems, as well as revenue accounting and revenue management. With this, Vistara has become the first airline in India to adopt the Amadeus Altéa Suite, which is already used by more than 120 airlines worldwide, including Singapore Airlines.

Vistara has also committed to Amadeus’ e-commerce and loyalty solutions to drive online bookings and optimise their frequent flyer programme. These will also help Vistara derive maximum operational efficiencies, reduce unnecessary waiting times at airports and ensure a seamless experience for its customers, stated a release.

Phee Teik Yeoh, CEO, Vistara, said, “Vistara is set to transform the Indian aviation landscape and we are extremely pleased to partner with Amadeus, a global leader in technology solutions for the travel industry. Our technology partnership with Amadeus will be a key differentiator offering advanced features and an integrated platform for our customers across multiple channels including mobile and web.”

Julia Sattel, Senior Vice President, Airline IT, IT Group, Amadeus, said, “I would like to warmly welcome Vistara into the growing Amadeus Altéa community. At Amadeus we are committed to connecting, serving and managing the needs of both our customers and the evolving 21st Century traveller. At the same time I would like to place on record how pleased we are to sign an agreement which marks the first airline in India to adopt our Altéa solution.”

Hazem Hussein, Executive Vice President, Airline Commercial, Asia Pacific, Amadeus, said, “There is a huge opportunity for full service carriers like Vistara to revolutionise Indian air travel with technology as the key differentiator. In today’s fiercely competitive aviation industry, technology can be the make or break difference for airlines. We are proud that Vistara has chosen Amadeus as its founding technology partner.”

Based on existing airline contracts, Amadeus estimates that by 2017 the number of Passengers Boarded (PBs) managed by Altéa will be around one billion. Full-service carrier Vistara is a joint venture of Tata Sons Ltd and Singapore Airlines Ltd.

Vistara's first aircraft lands in Delhi, to undergo checks

October 15, 2014

The landing marked the 82nd anniversary of JRD Tata's first commercial flight from Karachi to Mumbai, as the aircraft was welcomed with a water cannon salute.

Now, the A-320 would have to begin proving test flights and undergo other regulatory checks before the aviation regulator DGCA grants Vistara and its aircraft the airworthiness certificate and the flying licence or the Scheduled Operator's Permit (SOP).

Is it just me or does the Vistara livery look rather bland on the aircraft.

They should have put a pearl finish on the white part, instead of leaving it Euro-white. I believe that is how it was in their first computer generated pictures.

It does look very average and doesn't exude a premium feel they've been building up towards. Billboard titles across the fuselage could have worked out better.

The website isn't too flash either.

I for one like the Euro White over pearl finish. Looks "cleaner". I agree with the general comments that the livery looks somewhat simple. But then this can grow on you over time. You may even start to like it subconsciously if the airline offers great service.

Vistara likely to receive flying permit by Nov end

October 28, 2014

Tata-Singapore Airlines' joint venture Vistara may be able to take to skies by the end of this year with the airline expected to receive its air operators' permit (AOP) from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) by the end of next month.

Sources in the DGCA informed that the airline has only recently imported two aircraft into the country and unveiled the livery on the first.

Vistara is now in the process of readying itself for base audits and to conduct proving flights as required by the regulator before it can secure its permit.

A senior official in the regulator said, "There are few processes which remain to be completed. The airline has to conduct proving flights and demonstrate its preparedness to start commercial operations. If they are able to meet all requirements properly, we may be able to issue them a permit by the end of November."

DGCA rule changes leading to delay in launch, says Vistara

Oct 29 2014

Full-service carrier Vistara, a joint venture between the Tata Group and Singapore Airlines, said that changes in rules by the aviation regulator with regards to the final approval process for new airlines is leading to delays in starting its commercial operations. The airline is likely to start flying only from around January next year, four months behind the original plan for a launch in September 2014.

“There is an approval process that every new airline needs to go through and we are also following the same process. It is however taking a little longer time than we anticipated. As a team we are quite focused and concentrating all our energies towards operational readiness,” Vistara said in a response to an email query. “There have been some new developments with respect to Directorate-General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) guidelines and we are working to swiftly comply with the same,” the company added.

“The airline has several processes remaining, such as airport office audit, a base check and finally the proving flight. The operating manuals approval took longer than expected. There is a feeling that the competition is trying to block the entry of Vistara,” a source said.

In fact I am expecting some classical work in interiors.. hope they take some inspiration from old world AI.

Vistara Signs Pact With Airbus for Engineering Support

November 05, 2014

Vistara on Wednesday said it has inked a pact with Airbus for engineering support services including components supply and airframe maintenance.

The long-term flight hour services tailored support package contract with Airbus starts this year with the entry into service of 20 A320 leased fleet. The contract is to provide integrated services, ranging from components supply, repair to full airframe maintenance and engineering service, Vistara said in a release here.

Under the agreement, an on-site Airbus team will manage daily maintenance activities such as spares, line, warehousing, engineering, checks to ensure Vistara's aircraft technical dispatch and operations, the release added.

"This long-term commitment recognises our confidence in Airbus to deliver the highest quality service. Having the aircraft manufacturer supporting our aircraft inventory, maintenance and engineering indeed for us is the most comprehensive solution for our operational readiness from day one," Vistara senior vice president for engineering Rajender Singh said.

Airbus' flight hour services now cover more than 150 aircraft with operators of A320, A330, and A380 fleets, Airbus executive vice president-customer services Didier Lux said.

"We are delighted to welcome Vistara as our first FHS (flight hour services) customer in India. Our FHS team is committed to deliver the best possible service to the airline," Mr Lux said.

Vistara defers 3rd plane delivery

November 9, 2014

Vistara has deferred the delivery of its third aircraft as it is yet to receive the scheduled operator permit from aviation regulator DGCA, according to sources.

"Vistara was scheduled to take the delivery of the third aircraft last month. However, it has put off induction for the time as it has still not received the flying licence," an industry source told PTI.

When contacted, a Vistara spokesperson said in a statement: "We have already received the first two aircraft as per the schedule. However, we have adjusted the induction of our next aircraft keeping in mind the delay in the approval process."

Vistara too has two A320 planes but it deferred the induction of its third plane as it is yet to receive an operating permit from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation.

"We have adjusted the induction of our next aircraft keeping in mind the delay in the approval process. This will, however, not impact our plan to have a fleet of five aircraft by March 2015," said a Vistara spokesperson.

Vistara Airlines to take off by end of December or early 2015

6 December 2014

Vistara Airlines, is likely to take off by the month-end. A senior Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) official told dna that the airline may well launch its services this month itself.

"It (Vistara) is undergoing flight tests, where it has to operate demonstration flights for 10 hours on five non-revenue routes and carry out evacuation exercise to acquire flying licence. If they clear it on time, they are good for flying before the end of this month," said the official.

Responding to an email query from dna, Vistara said; "We are ready to launch operations as soon as we receive regulatory approvals."

"We will be able to share more details when we are closer to the operational launch," it said in response to a dna query, refusing to disclose destination networks.

Vistara, however, said it would commence booking shortly after it receives the Airline Operator Permit (AOP). The airline also did not reveal what would be the configuration of its aircraft. It had earlier said that the initial plan is to operate two A320 aircraft.

"We configured our aircraft to fit our route network plan and reflect our brand value propositions. We will be sharing more details at a later stage," the airline wrote back.

Vistara to get flying licence next week

8 Dec, 2014

Vistara will get the crucial operating permit from the DGCA next week. Government sources say the airline may get its Air Operators Permit (AOP) or flying licence by December 15, 2014. The airline has cleared its proving flights, which is the final stage of getting an AOP last week, and would get its flying licence after the US-based Federal Aviation Authority completes the audit of the DGCA. The FAA audit, clearing it will upgrade the Indian aviation market to Category I from Category II now, of DGCA begins on December 8 and goes on till December 12.

I believe the country will be able to support 3-4 domestic carriers at the maximum. There is no point in allowing anyone and everyone into the game.
There isnt enough infrastructure to sustain the business model.

In addition, there should be an annual Viability audit of all airlines.

Also, any further equity infusion into state owned carriers should be done only via an executive order from the Prime Minister, with full deposition of the business case before both Houses of Parliament.

We cant afford to have airlines come and go like that (Air Deccan, Kingfisher, Spicejet), especially after growing large enough to form their own ecosystems.

Vistara opens bookings; to fly on January 9, 2015

18th December 2014

•Launch of sales; activates distribution channels including the Vistara website
•Offer tickets to Mumbai and Ahmedabad initially, will expand network soon

New Delhi, December 18, 2014 – With its distribution channel and booking website going live today, Vistara, the much-awaited JV between Tata and SIA is ready to take to the skies. The full service carrier announced that its first flight would take-off on January 9, 2015. With Delhi as its hub, Vistara will initially offer flights to Mumbai and Ahmedabad.

Delivering on its brand promise of “a world class flying experience” Vistara is the first full service carrier in India to introduce the ‘Premium Economy’ class. Vistara’s 148-seater A320-200 will offer three separate cabins, with 16 seats in Business, 36 in Premium Economy and 96 in Economy Class. Seats for all three classes are on sales and there will not be a separate fuel surcharge. Vistara is also the first airline in India to offer a value based frequent flyer program called Club Vistara, wherein loyalty points are accrued based on actual spend on the ticket fare rather than miles travelled. Keeping up with the times, airline has done away with the physical loyalty card. Customers can start enrolling for the program through Vistara website and download their Club Vistara loyalty card.

Vistara’s robust distribution channels offer customers an array of options to book their travel. Bookings can be made through direct channels like the company website (www.airvistara.com) and the 24/7 Customer Service Centre (1860 108 9999) or the major Global Distribution Systems (GDS) used by Online Travel Agencies (OTAs) and other traditional travel agents. Vistara’s GDS partners include Abacus, Amadeus and Travelport, which will enable customers to book via all major travel portals.

Mr. Phee Teik Yeoh, Chief Executive Officer, Vistara, said, “I am very excited as this day is the culmination of many months of hard work. The activation of distribution channels is our first interface with our customer and with this, we embark on a journey to fulfill our brand promise of seamless travel experience. I would like to especially thank our partners for helping us put our best foot forward and most importantly the members of Vistara team for their diligence and resolve all this while.”
