AEROMINI AIR INDIA BOEING 747-200 VT-EBD 'Emperor Ashoka' 1:239
This VERY rare model sold today on eBay for US $898 +$25 shipping., making it a whopping $ 923 - arguably the most expensive Air India model in history !!!
This model is from circa 1975 & is one of the first Air India die-cast models ever made. While I lost out on this one, much to my chagrin (really wanted this one as it was the first 747-237's my late father had flown, and on which he lost some of his good friends back in 1978), I thought I'd share some pics of this beauty with you all!

Nice model. A shame you lost out. Aeromini's are always expensive though. Maybe it'll show up again.
Not sure if it is the most expensive, someone once told me the AeroClassics Connie went for close to a thousand as well. |

The last I saw the AeroClassics Connie go on eBay was about $280, but close to a thousand would not be beyond one's imagination! |

You'll need to host the picture somewhere. Flickr, Imageshack.us, photobucket, etc and then post the link here. |

Which type are you referring to? The Aerominis aren't made anymore so they usually only on ebay or through a private seller.
For 1/400 or 1/500 scale die cast models there are many retailers that ship worldwide with reasonable prices.
I'd post some links but I think the Admin here frowns on that so PM me if you'd like them. |

@ b747-237
yes i did post your photos for the collecting public in general.
I stand corrected on Emp Ashoka. Seeing 3 windows on upper deck I got misled. Just checked the dB and note that you are right. Same for the crash year. I was a young boy when this happened. Just forgot how young I was |

i dont think they'd frown if you post links to sources that will help members here to purchase what they want. Its not advertising its helping fellow members.
anyways you can PM the links to where i can buy 1:500 models and get them shipped to India.
I wonder whats the premium for shipping though or if there are any hassles with customs? _________________ If it aint Boeing.. I aint going. |

@ B747-237
Wings900 would like to know the scale and possibly the photo of the box of Emp Ashoka. They basically need a confirmation that it is scale 1:290
Could you pls do so to carlos@wings900.com so that the dB can be updated.
thanks in advance |

Been taken care of, though I wonder if they would add it, given their aversion for Aerominis! That being said, I see that they've finally added your Aeromini IC 732 to the database. Congrats-you must be over the moon! |

@ 747-237.. whats the scales of the models you have collected? i usually have mine as 1:500. and so far only Herpa. Im a huge fan of 747s and have quite a few of them..
i'd like to know if theres any better maker than Herpa for the 747s so i can start adding them? _________________ If it aint Boeing.. I aint going. |

Most of mine are in 1:400 (Dragon Wings, Phoenix, Gemini Jets, Aeroclassics) , though I do also have 1:500 (Herpa, Star Jets, Schabak) & 1:600 (Schabak). And that's also my order of preference for scale & manufacturer. |

A little about these models, at least 1/400. No manufacturer is "the best". Each have their good models and their duds. For example Dragon Wings has an excellent 747-400 mold (what the model is made with) but their 707s are garbage. AeroClassics has a fantastic 707 mold but their DC-6 is sub par. Gemini is generally good, their molds aren't great or bad. As said, those are just examples and each mfr has other good and bad molds as well.
Dragon Wings are probably the most distributed as they simply make more of each model than others and you are likely to find these even in Indian stores. |

Here's my latest addition
1:500 scale
Inflight500 747-300 VT-EPX "Narasimha Varman" in the 'Sun' Livery
Very nice model indeed - good rolling gears, & nice detailed SCD features on the Combi
Compliments the 1:500 Star Jets 747-400 VT- ESO "Khajhurao" very nicely!

Just got a slightly different version of the 1:600 Schabak 747-400 VT-ESM "Konark".
This is the Second Version, "1990s" Colors. Printed Engines and Wings. With Registration Printed Red. Mould Type IV
As opposed to my earlier model, the Third Version, "1990s" Colors. With Printed Engines and Wings. With Shadow Upperdeck Windows. With Registration Printed Black. Mould Type IV.
Here they are together.......the differences are notable on the wings and the quality / color of the decal.

Lack of quality!
That IS A QUALITY collection, and the photography is pretty good too.... shooting close up is hard to do and when you have a table full of models you probably wont get all of them in focus anyways...
I think you did great both on the quality and collecting front!
Cheers..... Dave _________________ If it isn't broke - then dont try to fix it! |

Here's the latest....
Schabak 747-400 VT-ESM "Konark" in 1:250
Apparently produced by Schabak in limited quantity, this seems to be the largest AI 747 Die-cast commercially produced model. Like most Schabak models, the quality is not too great, though I was glad the landing gear is not in the typical Schabak style. |

Awesome collection there Mr. 747, and great job with the close-ups...regarding the Schabak AI 744 above, couldn't help noticing the Hindi titles being spelled out as "Air Idia" ...anyhow, looking forward to more of your AI fleet... |

Thanks 777 - great eyes there - I didn't even notice the flaw in the Hindi titles on the Schabak 744 (1:250)!!
Will try & post closeups of my collection as soon as I have time...perhaps next weekend. |

Not an Air India model but something of interest for sure! Maybe the thread title should be changed to "Models of Airliners from India" or something. So now we have an Jet A330/340/777 which makes up their current and past long haul fleet. I'm sure we'll get the 787 eventually and hopefully some 737s! Now on to the model...
Gemini Jets Jet Airways A330
March release so likely due in April:

Here are the latest additions to my Air India fleet (all in 1:400):
Phoenix 777-200LR VT-ALA "Andhra Pradesh" in the 'still born' livery
Dragon Wings 777-200LR VT-ALB "Arunachal Pradesh" (wrongly marked "Kalyani")
Phoenix 777-200LR VT-ALC "Assam"
Dragon Wings Airbus A330-200 SE-RBF
All the LRs - ALA, ALB, & ALC
The New AI Colors on - ALB, SE-RBF, & ALC
Not AI, but here is the Gemini Jets Jet Airways 777-30ER VT-JEA, which I was fortunate to fly on her maiden voyage from the US to India (EWR-BRU-BOM, Aug 5, 2007)
