Yep, have you been reading the posts on the diecast forums?
I know about the one on A.net but was wondering if there were any other pictures out there where it is 100% clear.
What's your opinion on whether it may have been spelled 'poorna' at anytime after a repaint? |
Haven't come across any other pics of DVA with the name, but will certainly let you know. My dad's old flight logs only had the Regn. nos....wish it had the names in there too!!
I won't be surprised if AI did pull a switch-a-roo with the spelling. There was apparently some confusion about the early 707s & their names. VT-DJJ was initially named Annapurna but later renamed Gaurishankar; VT-DJI's name was changed from Gaurishankar to Nandadevi; and then later VT-DVA was named Annapurna.
To quote http://www.airwhiners.net/whine_cheez/20040726.htm
Air India entered the jet age on 21 February 1960 when it took delivery of the first Boeing 707-437 registered VT-DJJ. The aircraft was initially named "Annapurna" upon delivery, but following a minor fire during a Bombay to Calcutta flight a few years later was re-christened as "Gaurishankar". VT-DJI, the second aircraft delivered and who had been originally named "Gaurishankar", was re-christened as "Nandadevi" at this time.
Won't be surprised if at one of these times, the spelling was changed too.
I guess the crux of the matter in terms of this model from IF200, is did VT-DVA carry the "poorna" version of the name, at any time. Could you send me the links to some of the posts on the diecast forums about this, incase I've missed any. |

I think you did great, my friend!! And I agree with your POV out there.
About the retailers, didn't see this one on flightonemodels.com Have you ever dealt with Bob @ skysthelimitaviation.com ? He seems to be expecting it to arrive July 20. Yeah, too bad Nick doesn't carry them, else it would be easy choice.
Still no news about the Aviation 400 744 (1:400) ! |

I guess Kevin hasn't updated his site.
Sky's the Limit is good. I've bought some stuff from them before. He's been around for years. Hey I think he's somewhat local to you? How much is he selling it for? |

Bob has it for $90 +$7.95 for shipping. There is a 6.5% tax fro FL residents (unlucky me), but I guess you can get it for under $100. He says it'll ship out July 21 if all goes as per plan. |

It just might although I don't collect too many. There are some exceptions though and that one is beautiful. I wish AeroClassics would make that in 1/400.
Hey, did you happen to get that Gemini Air Ceylon Trident? |

Just placed my order for the IF.
Yah, I haven't been posting pics lately because my models are all in storage. I'll be moving into my new house this weekend so in a week or so I'll take some pictures. |

Sammy, nope, not yet.....Bob's last email said he expects to get them on the 20th & should have them out the door on the 21st (if all goes according to plan). I've been salivating, looking at ANNAPOORNA's pics on the other forums & am getting rather impatient!! Hope we see ours before the month is out. Will let U know as soon as the package gets here. |

Haven't heard anything on that model. Not gonna bother waiting for it either, when it comes it comes, if not, oh well. AV400 is very inconsistent with their releases. I hear a lot of times they get released in Asia but take forever to get over here. With that said, I also heard there were improvements in the works so I guess we'll have to wait and see. |

I'm in no rush really. I just found out they're gonna have to cut open the walls at my new house to replace some security wiring so I won't be displaying my models for a while. I need to get some new shelves too. |

Depends on what you are looking for. Newer releases can be had from regular retailers of these models but older ones will be a bit more difficult to hunt down and you may have to go the ebay route.
Typically, normal prices are between US$20-35. If they are older/rarer then they could be a lot more. |

Just read that Phoenix will release the Kingfisher A380 as part of their August releases. I'll post a pic when available but could be weeks. |

From Phoenix.
Fantasy in the sense that the registration is likely made up and if KF changes their livery prior to delivery. |

Yeah, I guess VJM won't cancel this order, even if his 340s are gonna drag him under! (Thus chances are it won't be a 'fantasy' model in that sense).
Personally, I'd prefer seeing an A340 model in IT colors. |

Oh that's what you meant by fantasy. Well, that may happen but I bet if he cancels he buys at least one for ego purposes. |

Thanks Karan - and your response was the best one of the entire thread!
I put that down in small font, lest others think I was trying to be pompous. But yes, he sure was something, having flown 707s & 747s for AI after his IAF years, in what was the golden period of Indian aviation! |

Thanks! I know what you mean!
Now, if only I had some clout with the 'babus' at AI or the MOCA to get my hands on one of these old 747-237 models that used to be at the AI Bldg. at Nariman Point. Would have been a great addition to my little collection of AI planes that my Dad flew. Wonder what they did with these old beauties !
