No Jet Airways models in 1/400.
There is a new India based airline model coming this month though but that is all I can say for now. |
Well if it is not 9W or AI, it has to be KF. |

I was told ahead of time so I don't want to spill the beans before the official announcement. It probably wouldn't matter if I mentioned it on this board but just in case. |

That looks great, Sam, though I was wondering if the underbelly should have had that polished steel look. And perhaps the black nose a little bigger. Nonetheless, a good one!
Wish they had a few more models of Indian carriers.
Any opinion on the Kingfisher A320 from Herpa ? |

While it is true that this is not the typical IC livery (usually a gray belly) I don't think IC ever had a polished metal belly on these as it is not usually possible on Airbus aircraft. American Airlines is a rare exception and even they had to fight with Airbus to get it after initially painting their aircraft gray. Agree with you on the nose but hey, what can you do. Also this is the first Indian Airlines die-cast model in any scale.
I'm sure AeroClassics will eventually get around to the gray belly model.
Which scale is the Kingfisher model you speak of? |

The Herpa 1:500 (what I believe is the only other Indian carrier to have a model) |

Sam, are there 2 distinct IC A300s? I see only one on the Aeroclassics new releases. |

Sammyk,
This is not the first IC model in any scale--Some company iIIRC "Flying Bee" or something on the lines of that, has an IC A320 in 50th anniversary colours and is in 1:500 scale.
The herpa KF A320 is also in 1:500---i asked my dad to get me one from onboard IT, but on enquiring they told him since nobody had ordered one for 5 months they stopped keeping them--it retailed for around 700 INR.

Just received may latest adition to my AI die-cast collection - the Star Jets 747-400 in 1:500, and was pleasantly surprised with the high quality. Makes the Herpa 747-400 in 1:500 look awful! Looking forward to receiving the Dragon Wings 767-300ER in the near future. |

Yes, isn't that what I said?
The only polished Airbus you're ever likely to find is with American Airlines. |

GOT IT!!
Finally found the Aeroclassics Air India L-1049G-82-106 Super Constellation VT-DIM (1:400) - the holy grail of AI models!! Will post a pic as soon it arrives in the mail!!
Just one more die-cast AI model to go - the new Schuco Air India B 747-437 in 1:600. It is the Schabak mould & identical to the Schabak model, though the Centaur logo on the engines is in it's latest avatar (at a slight angle pointing upwards).

Hey Sammy - actually I was amazed at what I paid for it - $32 inclusive of S&H ! After paying $100 & $55 for the Aeroclassics 707s, I was pleasantly surprised!!
Any opinion on the Schuco model? I believe Schuco has bought out Schabak. There also seems to be a Schabak AI 744 in 1:250 scale. WIsh I could get a pic of the landing gear (probably as crappy as the regular Schabak)! |

Couldn't agree more!! Found it on eBay early this morning, with a 'Buy it Now' price in addition to the auction, & so I grabbed it for $27 (+$5) . I guess I'll know how it looks when I get it in hand - had him ship it to my Sis, incase it doesn't make it before I leave for my trip - that will be killing - to have the model sitting with her, while I'm in BOM for 8 weeks!!!! But I guess I had to take a chance ! Will let you know how it turns out. Fingers crossed, that I finally lucked out on this one! |

Hey that's awesome! Just don't tell the seller what he could have gotten for that! You're not just lucky with the price but the fact that it was still available using Buy It Now! |

You said it, my man!! Waking up at 6:00am on a Sunday morning & logging on to eBay still blury eyed did have it's benefits!! I guess it was pure luck that I got to it before anyone else. It's great to be a proud owner of one of the 60 ! |

Well, it was their first widebody so it holds some special meaning.
This is a good thing for the future though. It seems that since they've done this one (and in the old livery) there may not be any licensing issues and they are likely free to do other models too. Fortunately Gemini has molds for most of the fleet: 773, 73G/738, 787 and A330. |

Ok, here is a question about Schabak AI models :
I seem to have this 747-437 from Schabak:
http://www.wings900.com/modeldatabase/detailview-13194.html
However, the winglets do not have the 'swoosh' (for lack of a better term).
There is also a simliar model, but apparently different:
http://www.wings900.com/modeldatabase/detailview-452.html
The difference is that this one apparently comes "With Silver Wings"
Sammy, I see that you have the second one in your collection. Could you confirm that yours is this one (With Silver Wings) as opposed to the first one (like mine, which has grey wings)
Also, does yours have the 'swoosh' on the winglets ?
Does anyone own both these Schabak 747-437s (1:600) for comparison purposes ??
There is a similar issue with the Schabak 747-237s (1:600). There seem to be 2 versions of the same :
http://www.wings900.com/modeldatabase/detailview-11577.html
and
http://www.wings900.com/modeldatabase/detailview-15813.html
I think I have the first one. Again, does anyone own both, or know if both these are indeed different, as the only difference I can spot is the "Mould Type".
Finally (!) has anyone seen this Schabak 747-437 in 1:250 scale ??
http://www.wings900.com/modeldatabase/detailview-8655.html
Thanks !! |

Mine is like the one in the first link with painted wings and dark corogard. It also has the 'swoosh'.
However, the box I have for it is like the one in the second link. Good grief, what a horrible model, luckily it was free! |

Just read that Phoenix is releasing Air India B777-200LR VT-ALA
and
that there is another Indian Airlines from Aeroclassics. This time it is the same VT-EVD A300 but with 50 years of flying livery

Yep, the IC A300 has been posted above as well as here.
The 50th Anniversary model is not a regular release and if you find it for sale somewhere then buy it. Only 120 were made and for the most part were not available through regular retail channels.
The Phoenix 777 is going to be the short lived "new livery" with the negative space Centaur tail. Should be an interesting one to collect but at least it's not a fantasy model. |
