Exactly. IXE isn't included as PoC in any bilateral. _________________ |

Apologies sir, that was corrected a while ago. But I just found out that EY has permanently upgauged EY274/275 to A330-200, which keeps HYD in 6th place. _________________ |

I am a bit surprised that Etihad and Qatar serve greater frequencies out of DEL than out of BOM.
But BOM still seems to have a substantial share of the seat capacity overall. Although I feel that in other sectors such as Europe/Americas/Far East, DEL has a more substantial market.
The only other place where BOM may still be ahead is Africas, I suppose.
Blame it on the Mumbai airport mess..and the increasing prosperity of the North Indian Tier-2/Tier-3 cities. I bet a lot of DEL's labour traffic is really out of adjoining Haryana, Western UP and Rajasthan..while the NRI class is mostly out of DEL and Punjab/Chandigarh/Jaipur belt. |

Excellent information. One more request, can you also do one from Hong Kong, which has quite a few flights to India. |

Excellent discussion! I have book marked this page. I wonder why no desi airlines operate from CCU to ME. Are there shortage of passengers or they just don’t care for East India! _________________ Sabya99 |

EK increasing weekly flights to CCU from 12 to 13, with daily B777 service ( rest A332). Total passenger load in DXB-CCU both ways in 2012 was about 278,000. _________________ Sabya99 |

And yet the route is loss making on 8 of the 12 months. The increase is to accommodate the seat count on account of retirement of the 2 class A330-200. |

It is always safe to take that India - Saudi Arabia flights are profitable round the year.
Everything else depends on the route , nature of competition and nature of traffic other than VFR. |

Even after Nitaqat programme, Arrivals into Saudi are still booming. 9W should take note of this. _________________ |

How you know? Source?
So you want to say that emirates actually did not want to increase frequency and offered seats?
With ethiad coming the competition will be tougher |

Jetihad adds IXE-AUH eff 29MAR. With this, 9W will fly more than 300 weekly flights to the Gulf. From just 42 times a week in January 2008, to 300. _________________ |

Perfect - the Gulf sector is anyway the one that mints the most money for airlines and coupled with daddy's feed at AUH - should be a good way for 9W to head to consistent profitability and a clear focus. _________________ We miss you Nalini! |

Do we really believe this? EY is discounting a lot on premium routes like US-India (as is EK). Who will 9W make money on a $850 JFK-BOM ticket if they just fly the AUH-BOM route. They will have people for sure. Been dealing with EY on a schedule change they just had which cause a huge misconnect. EY is not near like US carriers on IRROPS. So let's see what 9W learns from them. My bet is on Vistara and SQ (although think 16 J seats and PE on domestic flights is just too premium for now). |

Contrary to what you like to believe, airlines in the world arent all set up to take folks from India to US. The middle east in itself is a huge O&D market from India.
IXE has a catchment area that extends into Northern Kerala. Good enough for their mid-east operations. US/Europe connections from places like IXE is rather incidental - not the primary aim. |

I was more commenting on the daddy's feed and profitability comment - and yes i did focus on longhaul primarily because i didnt think any indian carrier really needs ME feed in the ME to make their ME opps profitable. |

AUH is just one of the destinations (and not the biggest for Indians by far), there's lot of connecting traffic to other destinations in the MENA region - including to KSA - this would benefit from the EY/9W IXE-AUH flight and connecting via AUH, rather than say at COK or BOM. _________________ We miss you Nalini! |

Air Arabia Group get to gain India approval for Ras Al Khaimah-Calicut/Kozhikode services
News
6-Feb-2015 11:11 AM
Air Arabia Group CEO Adel Abdullah Ali said the Indian government is yet to give approval to operate from Ras Al Khaimah to Kozhikode (Live Mint, 05-Feb-2015). Mr Ali said the airline was designated to fly to Kozhikode from Ras Al Khaimah after the grounding of RAK Airways. RAK Airways announced on 01-Jan-2015 that it was grounding all services owing to financial woes. “We are operating nine flights for Ras Al Khaimah. But we’re yet to get approvals from Indian government to fly to Calicut (Kozhikode),” Mr Ali said. |

Great analysis, Abhijit.
As you mentioned 10:15 is not a bad ratio, especially where EK and EY traffic are mostly used by pax for connecting to other destinations. _________________ Satish Nagaraji |
