Noticed one thing common in USA, NZ, Aus, Germany that they have water canon salutes... why not in India? Any reason? _________________ http://www.myspace.com/avsatsworld

Wow that looks great... VT-ALA 9W's 773ER, IC A330 and all other new aircrafts should get water canon salutes. _________________ http://www.myspace.com/avsatsworld

Usually cannon salutes are given when the pilot retires and when he taxies his aircraft for the last time, water cannon salute is given then. I am sure that is not the case here with Paramount.

There are many reasons. Others are new aircraft type, typically a flagship aircraft or for the inaugural flight of a new airline to the airport. For example they could do it when Continental arrives at BOM for the first time. Just don't make the mistake United did recently and spray foam! |

I like the idea of it as well, and I don’t know why they don’t do it in India.
Yes they do it for inaugural flights etc but not for regular scheduled flights [such as a pilot’s last flight which I think is just brilliant.]
Maybe it’s a hassle in India; the bureaucracy and time it would take to get permission from aai/fire department etc it seems painful. (Im guessing, I have no idea) _________________ eP007 |

Maybe becoz of the acute water shortages which we see in the various cities act as a deterence for water cannon salutes... _________________ Expeditors- You'd be surprised how far we will go for you www.expeditors.com |

Just a question- but why were they horrible? Don’t the fire departments have a prescribed time in order to get to the scene of the accident (if it’s within the airport boundary)
I would imagine that the fire departments do meet that requirement. Is there a specific instance you are referring too? _________________ eP007 |

stealthpilot, the fire trucks are quite less in number as compared to other airports, besides the trucks are quite old, although our firefighter personals are not to blame, but the govt should have upgraded them long ago. _________________ http://www.myspace.com/avsatsworld

I've never found the BOM Airport fire services to be lagging during a declared Emergency. This on my last 17 years in Aviation at BOM.
The Chennai FD during the AF B747 Freighter mishap story is well known as the staff were too drunk to even hold the hose. That Aircraft need not have been lost.

Yes now it has been done, infact great fire trucks, special trainers were also called from Aus, Ger and Brazil to train them.
My one pic of those:

Thats kind of sad to hear, when did this happen , i always thought that this was the A300 that Frankfin had apparently bought to train its personnel or students.

Personally I'd like One of each type of Aircraft flown by Indian operators to be preserved in an outdoor museum in the country.

I would like to see the ARC B-707-337s being repainted in AI colors and preserved. Too bad, AI did not bother to preserve even one of it's B747-237. _________________ Save Maharashtra! |

Sadly I would expect the equipment to be on the old side, but that’s the case for so many things. The employees might be competent but the government has never invested in the infrastructure.
That doesn’t make the fire departments horrible though
Anyway i get your point, im sure the new airports will have more to offer. _________________ eP007 |
