I HAV A QUESTION..
IS THE LENGTH OF AN AIRBUS 346 SAME AS A BOEING 773?
COZ AS FAR AS I KNOW.. THE AUTHORITIES AT MUMBAI AIRPORT DENIED VIRGIN ATLANTIC TO SEND THEIR 346 DUE TO THEIR LENGTH BUT THERE ARE MANY 773s SEEN AT MUMBAI...
SO IS 773 SHORTER THAN THE 346?
please reply. |

According to Wikipedia
Boeing 777-300 :242 ft 4 in (73.9 m)
Airbus A340-600 :246 ft 11 in
So yes Airbus A340-600 is longer to B777 by 4 feet 7 inches.
Cheers

Yes the A346 is longer than the 773.
Keeping that in mind imagine if some operators decide to send the 748I to BOM which will be the longest commercial airliner in the world. |

who told you that? its the first i've heard regarding VS being barred from operating an A346..
the only reason i know of first hand is that the route has not generated loads enough to warrant an A346's capacity (roughly equivalent to a Jumbo's capacity depending on config) VS have operated the A346 to BOM on several occasions however they have done so using Gate 4 (bay 42) but mostly they have used the remote bays since the A346 is a misfit for BOM's main bays..
but apart from the airline facing operational difficulties to accomodate its size in BOM and VS not being able to generate sufficient volume to justify an A346 on the route... i have certainly not heard of the airport authorities banning them from operating the A346 _________________ If it aint Boeing.. I remember the first time I saw a 346, it was a VS in HKG and my reaction was wow thats LONG.
Since I have travelled on the TG's 346 and loved it.
Sorry for going slightly OT

But im quite sure SRB wouldn't like to have a 'regular' remote bay for his flights anywhere _________________ http://www.myspace.com/avsatsworld

Wow - the 346 has problems in many airports (due to the turning radius needed, many taxiways cant' be used), so I guess the 748 will have limitations as well. |

D-ABTH is quite right and he beat me to the same post. Infact Wikipedia also has the 748I lengths and I think its about 1.1 m longer than the 346.
Link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Airbus_A340-600#A340-600_series
Also I belive AI and 9W might order the 748I in future

as of now i think they have dropped the idea for differing lengths of the Intercontinental and the Freighter.. so both are to have the same lengths however as i understand from various reported informations Emirates is in extensive discussions to get Boeing to derive another version? not sure..
but as far as i know we have taken the Intercontinental as is right now wrt specifications given by Boeing _________________ If it aint Boeing.. I aint going. |
