Did Sahara emotionally bow out of the Guangzhou route with tears in its eyes? or do they still think they can do it with a B737 since their B767 is leaving them.

Not Much is know as to when do they intend to introduce their services to DAC and CAN. Few months back with much fan fair they had introduced flights to Port Blair . The flight is going 100% full with no seats available till April 2nd week. Checked up with reservation as i wanted to send my parents for a vacation and they said its waitlisted on a full fare.
extra flights deployed to BOM, CCU has also been withdrawn. No specific reason has been given.
Their PR dept i guess is not that media savy as Jet and Kingfisher. They had planned to introduce flights to Chandigarh and Khajuraho bt again there is no news when this will start...
I guess if they are serious about running this airline which is actually a gud one they shud order a couple of heavies.. _________________ Expeditors- You'd be surprised how far we will go for you www.expeditors.com |

Not getting personal but why does everyone think ordering heavies always solves the problems? Can you manage a heavy on a route like for example to Maldives? An airline's minimum financial conditions should be strong enough. We all know S2 is in a weather ... no wonder they attempted selling the airline and geeting away with a Sahara Pranam. _________________ http://www.myspace.com/avsatsworld

Cool! S2 must lease a few more and manage with the losses they have made. Their 10x 738 fleet should see to a growth in their total number of sectors they operate _________________ http://www.myspace.com/avsatsworld

Recently i read in HT that DEL bound flight from CCU made an emergency landing at DEL with a faulty flap. Just wondering is that a serious fault. As pilot had requested extra runway length for stopping of the aircraft. Any idea hw much kms ideally a 737 takes to stop from the point of touchdown... _________________ Expeditors- You'd be surprised how far we will go for you www.expeditors.com |

Just to give a rough idea of the runway length required by various models of NGs...the Landing weight, Autobrake setting, Flap setting, Wind conditions, Runway conditions, Runway Slope all affect this distance.
1. B737-600 50 T LW
Flaps 15 Auto Brakes 2 ==>1745 M
Flaps 30 Auto Brakes 2 ==>1635 M
Flaps 40 Auto Brakes 2 ==>1590 M
2. B737-700 58 T LW
Flaps 15 Auto Brakes 2 ==>2000 M
Flaps 30 Auto Brakes 2 ==>1885 M
Flaps 40 Auto Brakes 2 ==>1820 M
3.B737-800 60 T LW
Flaps 15 Auto Brakes 2 ==>2240 M

Sahara pilots test alcohol positive
By Sridhar Kumaraswami
New Delhi, Feb. 3: Two pilots of private airline Air Sahara tested positive for consumption of alcohol at New Delhi on Friday before they were to fly aircraft from the Delhi sector. The pilots were caught during routine pre-flight testing on account of strict surveillance by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), the regulator in the civil aviation sector, a top DGCA source told this newspaper. DGCA sources added that the licences of the pilots had been suspended. Air Sahara also confirmed that the two pilots had been "temporarily suspended".
When contacted, Air Sahara conceded that two of its pilots had been detected with alcohol in their bloodstream on Friday during a pre-flight medical test which, it said, had been conducted by the airline’s doctors. "During the pre-flight medical test and breathalyser test conducted by Air Sahara’s doctors, two pilots were detected with alcohol in their bloodstream above normal limits. They have been temporarily suspended," Air Sahara president Alok Sharma told this newspaper.
"Probably the two pilots had consumed alcohol the previous night and had not had the prescribed rest. It could also be that they had taken some medicines which had alcoholic content," Mr Sharma added. Asked whether the two pilots were detected before they were to fly aircraft and which sector they were to fly to, Mr Sharma said, "That is a totally irrelevant question."
A highly-placed DGCA source said, "The detection was due to the strict monitoring of the DGCA. If a pilot tests positive for alcohol consumption in a pre-flight check, it is a serious breach of discipline as it could affect the safety of hundreds of passengers. There should be no presence of alcohol in a pilot during a pre-flight check." _________________ M y - J e t P h o t o s |

This is def not tolerated if the report is true.
Responsible jobs come with an understanding of how many lives are at stake.
Its Important for Pilots/AMEs to be sober 12hrs before work.
Either maintain that or don't work in this field.

It seems Sahara continues to be fetish for the CRJ,s and they are planning to get 25 more of these birds... Any clue as to how actually are the CRJ,s performing in India.
Sahara Airlines, which attempted the country’s biggest aviation merger last year, said it’s in talks with Canada’s Bombardier Inc, the world’s third-largest maker of commercial aircraft, to buy planes as travel demand rises.
Air Sahara, as the airline is called, may purchase up to 25 aircraft, which can seat as many as 75 passengers, said Alok Sharma, president, Sahara

going for more CRJ's shouldn't be a bad idea if they are planning to enter the secondary to secondary city market like MDLR.
Then emotionally yours will become locally yours.

The argument continues......
In a setback to Jet Airways, the Bombay High Court on Wednesday asked the airline to approach the arbitration tribunal for resolving the dispute over the bank guarantee given to Air Sahara for the failed takeover deal.
Jet Airways had last year submitted a bank guarantee of Rs 500 crore for a share-purchase agreement (SPA) to acquire Air Sahara, but the deal went sour. The companies had earlier approached an Arbitration Tribunal (AT) in London to resolve the matter related to the failed takeover deal, but the issue of bank guarantee was not included.

In America (and I assume a lot of European countries) The max allowable B.A.C is .04 (half of what it is for driving) and the rule is you can’t consume alcohol 8 hours before your flight.
Heck, if a college student gets a DUI, his chances of getting a job plummet regardless of his qualifications. DUI’s incidently stay on your record for 75 years!!
Airlines need to be very very tough on this!!! It’s just not acceptable. _________________ eP007 |

Is that CRJ still in VAGO? and the 734 in bombay? And that other CRJ in calcutta.... instead of fleet expansion, they should probably just focus on bringing back the 'lost' ones.

There is traffic to Bishkek: IC has been codesharing on DEL-Bishkek with Uzbekistan Airlines for years now and is actively considering operations on its own metal. Good cargo loads as well: together should fill up a A321 pretty easily!
Basically trader traffic who find it easier to come to DEL to sell their local wares and to pick up cheap "luxury" stuff and fly back with goodies picked up from here. So its not "bulk" cargo that IC folks loves but "piecemeal" cargo.
So a market is definitely there: how successfully S2 taps into it is a different story. _________________ http://www.cougar-rides.com

Air Sahara will stop its DEL-CMB-MLE International operations from 12th March 07 onwards which were started with much fan fare. The reason being cited here is a technical issue.
They will continue to operate to CMB via MAA while MLE would now be flown from TRV. _________________ Expeditors- You'd be surprised how far we will go for you www.expeditors.com |

This is what i cll as DESTRUCTION OF IC ... they have been operating these routes from a long time with very good yields. Now S2 also enters. Probably S2 realised that there's more money in these two individual routes than in the previously operated leg _________________ http://www.myspace.com/avsatsworld

IC has operated out of TRV-MLE because it was the closest point from Inida and over the years that scheduling stayed. Typically the 6 am DEL-MMA flight went on to operate MAA-TRV-MLE and back before operating the evening MAA-DEL.
However froma loads perspective, it owuld be better if BLR and/or HYD were to be connected and timing the return from MLE in such a way that it connects from BLR/HYD to other points on the IC network like SIN,BKK and the Middle east thus allowing it to tap into MLE' market as well. IC in particular should consider this. DEL-BLR in any case could do with another daily frequency by IC, which could be extended to MLE and back. So one A320 could do DEL-BLR-MLE-BLR-TRV-BLR-DEL.
S2 would have been better off sticking to BLR. _________________ http://www.cougar-rides.com
