Finnair flights to India to be quadrupled, Flights to Mumbai all set for June launch
In June, Finnair will launch a new Indian route with flights to
Mumbai, which will be served non-stop from Helsinki five days a week.
Moreover, in mid-May the current three-weekly frequency for flights
to the Indian capital Delhi will be increased to daily.
“It will be extremely hard, if not impossible for airlines to secure
new arrival and departure slots at Indian airports in the coming
years,” says Henrik Arle, Finnair’s Deputy CEO, responsible for
Scheduled Passenger Traffic. “By adding to its Indian scheduled
traffic just now, Finnair is ensuring its presence in these fast
growing markets.”

Seems like their current flights are doing well - considering this massive increase. More connections available to One world members now at BOM/DEL. |

The report mentioned that they are getting 340s. Probably those will be used. _________________ My Flickr photos

Mayank r u sure abt the MD-11 thing because last i heared was that Finnair will upgrade the EQP to A343 once it goes daily from DEL.
Anyone having access to GDS where we can check the eqp _________________ Expeditors- You'd be surprised how far we will go for you www.expeditors.com |

The schedule on the Finnair website says the flight shall be operated by the MD-11.I had also heard that the flights shall be operated by the A343.
But the 2 A343 are scheduled for flying to Mumbai,Shanghai and Tokyo. So,DEL to be served by the MD-11.
Good for DEL,we still have atleast one passenger MD-11 operator.

I wonder how these hub oriented airlines can operate for long.
Finnair is almost exclusively looking at North America traffic and is trying to wean the spill-over traffic (for lack of better words ) from the likes of LH/AF or even EK.
But when AI and 9W begin direct services (I know 9W is planning but one-stop) I really wonder what yeilds will Finnair get? Not that Finnair has great European connections either!
I wonder whether they operate on the Aeroflot pricing model with dirt-cheap tickets??
I mean, with options like Delta, Continental , AA, AI (nonstop!) 9W, followed by choices like LH,AF,BA,KLM-NW, followed by EK,EY,QR, Finnair really comes LAST in terms of mindspace. |

As far as Finnair's North American destinations go,they have scheduled services to New York only.So I think they arent looking at the North American traffic. Moreover, their BOM flight timings do not provide good connection services to New York.
Finnair has good European connectivity with 35 european destinations served nonstop from Helsinki.Due to the geographical location of Helsinki, the flying time is less as compared to other European hubs and thats the main basis for Finnair to build an extensive Asian network(11 destinations) and provide fast onward connections to Europe.

I think this is equally to cater to the Scandinavians coming to India - which is increasing these days for both business and tourism. As Mayank mentioned, it's definitely not for connectivity to North America - since they don't offer any convenient connections. They have said they'd like to cater to connecting to secondary points in Europe, where we dont have direct/non-stop flights from India. In such cases, they'd be similar to the existing BA/LH etc. so probably have the same chance of getting business. |

Finnair’s decision to quadruple its flights to India has been greeted enthusiastically by its cargo GSSA, Global Aviation Group. Since Finnair commenced direct services from Delhi in October 2006, Global has claimed it could fill as much space as Finnair could give it.

Im going to be flying Finnair late july LHR - DEL costing a measly £362 return thats a good £80 cheaper than the next offering on Alitalia and a whopping £177 cheaper than Jet Airways was a no brainer for me cost wise and the reviews they have on the Airline Quality site arent brilliant but nor are they bad. The timings of flights are good aswell

well its pretty common that direct flights are more expensive than the ones which are indirect. So i guess Finnair flights can do well frm europe too _________________ Expeditors- You'd be surprised how far we will go for you www.expeditors.com |
