India ejects pilots for poor English
NEW DELHI (Reuters) - India has sent home at least 20 foreign pilots flying for its airlines in the past year as their poor English posed safety concerns, the country's civil aviation regulator said on Thursday.
English is used by India's hard-pressed air traffic controllers, who are struggling to make sense of crowded skies following a surge in new airlines in the last few years.
Rapid growth has led to carriers hiring hundreds of foreign pilots -- including from Central Asia and Eastern Europe.

Why were they selected in the first place? I though getting DGCA clearance was quite tough as it is? |

I wonder where most of these pilots came from that had such poor english? Russia? Germany? (probably the accent is too thick)
A very good call on India's part though... finally some quality control in place.
Who makes this decision? Airlines or the Govt Authority? _________________ "They [Terrorists] never stop thinking about new ways to harm our country and our people, and neither do we." - GWB |

The news report does mention that the pilots come from CIS (former Russian Republics) and Eastern Europe. _________________ My Flickr photos

Believe me their english is hard to understand even if spoken correctly. The incident at Charkhi-Dadri must have been at the back of their heads when they took that decision.
