Wow where did they get these slots from? VS? BTW the timings are great for both O&D and connections to the US (if you want to leave BOM in the am). Its long overdue that BOM gets a flight from LHR that lands at 6am (so you can head to a morning meeting).

LHR isn't as busy in the afternoon. So i wont be surprised these slots came from the pool of unused slots at LHR.

The flight will feed into VS/DL at LHR and add capacity to the already growing DL-9W-VS-AF-KLM JV for travel to and from India.

Expect a second daily DEL-LHR- DEL soon. This flight will have a real issue with slots at it should land early AM into LHR and those slots are worth millions and in shot supply.

I am surprised at the BLR-TRV code share. If you are connecting to/from TRV via BLR it entails 17-19 hours transit at BLR.

Ok what the hell is going on???? How can 9W/KL/DL/AF be increasing so much capacity between India and the EU (and then onwards to the US)? New flight to London, KLM to BOM, MAA & BLR to AMS, AZ to DEL, this up gauge...Either sky team really needs to fill US-EU seats OR they smell blood against the ME3 and are going for the kill?

I agree. So far:

Jet has: BOM-LHR 3rd flight
BLR-AMS; MAA-CDG;
KLM has: BOM-AMS (3 times/week)
AZ proposed: DEL-FCO

And AI has:

DEL-IAD
DEL-ARN
DEL-MAD
Proposed DEL-LAX; DEL-CPH

Also AC has added YYZ-BOM not too long ago. Only the US carriers are silent.

A rush of additions to India.

Is the lap top ban affecting India-Europe/US traffic on ME3 that much ? Not sure about that.

A few factors can be blamed for the above.

The fact that AF-KLM-DL-VS and 9W are now working together means the whole of Europe and North America can be reached using multiple hubs i.e. LHR, CDG, AMS in Europe and the DL hubs in the US provide last step connectivity.

This JV is a win win for all airlines combined and a big headache for the ME3. With cheap fuel, these airlines will add capacity to India and take away traffic from the Gulf airlines who have a whole bunch of problems to deal with.

All 5 airlines have very strong FF programs and hence a loyal following. What multiple hubs and connections to and from India does is helps keep these people fly within the JV and get miles / benefits.

9W has spare wide body aircraft and is the least cost operator among all the airlines mentioned above.

India has always been a challenging market for the US / European airlines with low yields and a lot of competition. This joint business provides connectivity at all 3 ends i.e. India, Europe and US which is fantastic.

Expect more capacity to be added and this joint business to grow from strength to strength.

Don't forget that the International passenger numbers are continuing to show high single digit growth y-o-y. On a relatively large base of 24 ~ 25 Million, that is significant. Recent trends show further upswing in both International tourist arrivals and outbound travel by Indians. With almost no capacity infusion from ME3 in the recent times, I think there is currently room for growth from the rest.

The real deal will be 9W joining Skyteam and folks earning status miles, not just award miles. The icing on the cake will be a metal neutral JV - which will allow 9W to add lots of India-EU capacity and take "Charge" of that leg.

Both of these are dreams right now of course, no inclination of either one happening. However at least 9W is no longer moaning about not joining *A!

Yeah a real JV would really allow them to coordinate flights. Right now they seem to be trying to spread things out so everyone "wins" something. That said they do not have. JV yet and 9W has not joined their transatlantic JV. With a JV in place.I would imagine KL's BOM flight would have been latter in the day to give variety of times to pax. Delta is very generous with 9W making them a tier 1 partner in Skymiles so Delta FF get full status miles on both Jet and Delta marketed flights flown by Jet. Flying blue only gives status on AF/KL markets flights flown by Jet.

I personally think Jet should move their LHR operations to T3 this is where VS and DL are located.

I understand EY are in T4 but I don't think 9W feeds very many passengers into EY at LHR. Where as 9W for a fact feeds a lot into VS and DL and v.v.

Back in the day 9W use to operate from T3

But again space constraint and slots at T3 are not easy to come by so this may never happen. Who knows?

Does anyone think if EY ever sell their share in 9W, any american carrier will pick up that stake?

I think airline D might be very happy to do so ; )

Wow - does that include domestic flights on 9W - can one earn status skymiles on those too? I did not know that DL is giving status miles when flying on 9W metal - that's almost all the way into Skyteam as far as DL goes!

This would be a logical move - hopefully with Skyteam induction happening too!

Yes you earn even on 9W domestic flights. DL put 9W in its tier one category so it treats 9W the same it does its JVs and investments - like AF, KL, AM (note with 9W there is no formal JV nor investment). So while 9W is not in Skyteam, for DL customers it basically is. Now if only 9W would give DL elites boarding privileges etc (it costs them nothing and not sure why they aren't introducing). To me, 9W misses the little things that elites want. And yes 9W should move to T3 in LHR and 2E in CDG.

Former Delta executive is Jet CEO

May 30, 2017

Jet Airways has appointed former Delta Airlines senior VP Vinay Dube as its next chief executive officer (CEO). Jet did not have a full time CEO since last February when Etihad-nominated Cramer Ball quit to join Alitalia. Etihad has 24% stake in Jet.

A regulatory filing Tuesday said Dube's appointment was cleared by the airline board and is subject to "receipt of all requisite government/ regulatory approvals, including his security clearance being obtained." "Dube is an accomplished aviation leader with over 27 years of US and international business experience," the filing said.

https://www.ch-aviation.com/portal/news/56497-indias-jet-airways-to-add-maiden-b737-max-8-in-3q18

India's Jet Airways to add maiden B737 MAX 8 in 3Q18

Jet Airways is slated to take delivery of its first of seventy-five B737 MAX 8s on order from Boeing during the second quarter of next year.

According to the PTI news agency, airline Chief Financial Officer and acting CEO, Amit Agarwal, told a conference call this week that the first MAX 8 would arrive in June 2018. The narrowbody twinjet will supplement Jet Airways' existing B737 fleet of two B737-700s, sixty B737-800s, and six B737-900s.

According to Agarwal, this year, Jet Airways will lease an additional 6-8 aircraft, primarily B737NextGens, sourced from the open market.

"We have already added one (such) aircraft into the fleet," he said.

As previously reported, Jet Airways is shifting its focus to jet operations amid plans to replace its eighteen ATR72 turboprops with B737s. The B737s are seen as better suited to Jet Airways' domestic market business model given their increased capacity and speed as well as their greater availability of locally-based flight crews.

Jet Airways to utilize all its B77W effectively from winter 17

Jet Airways over the past few weeks has updated its schedule to reflect the deployment of all ten B777-300ER (B77W) aircraft. This will probably be the first time when all 10 aircraft will be effectively used for long haul operations.

The current published schedule which sees utilization scale up close to 17 hours each day for the B77W fleet will also see the average stage length at 6268 kms. Eight out of ten aircraft will see full utilization with only the runs to Hong Kong from Mumbai and Delhi will see below average utilization.

Each of the 10 B77W of the airline have seen service with other carriers either on wet lease or dry lease or in some cases both. The first of this aircraft was inducted in the fleet in April 2007 while the tenth one joined the fleet in February 2008. The expansion plans were affected by the financial meltdown of 2008-09. The airline which was under a heavy debt load sold 24% stake to gulf carrier Etihad in April 2013.

The aircraft have been away from the Jet Airways fleet from anywhere between five months to thirty-one months and been with Turkish Airlines, Gulf Air, Thai Airways and equity partner Etihad.

Once again Sir, a delightful read, and a lovely diagrammatic representation of the planes' histories and the route maps. Once again Sir, your last paragraph is a loaded one Smile

Jet Airways in Talks to Buy 50 Single-Aisle Aircraft

June 5, 2017

Jet Airways India Ltd., the country’s biggest full-service carrier, is in talks to buy 50 narrowbody jets worth at least $5.6 billion on top of a pending order for Boeing Co. 737 Max aircraft, a person with direct knowledge of the plan said.

The most likely model the airline is considering is the 737 Max, though it is also looking at Airbus SE’s A321neo jets as well as the 737 Max 10, a stretched version Boeing may introduce in Paris this month, the person said, asking not to be identified as the discussions are confidential. Jet Airways could sign the deal in the next two months for deliveries starting 2024, the person said.

Jet Airways continuously reviews its fleet in response to demand, but won’t comment on speculation, a spokesman said in an email. A representative for Boeing said in an email that the planemaker is in constant communications with airlines in India about their needs but doesn’t discuss specific conversations publicly. An Airbus spokesman declined to comment.

Jet Airways, which has 10 Boeing 787s on order, is also in talks with the planemaker to defer deliveries of the Dreamliners by two to three years, as the airline can use its existing relatively new 777 jets for a few more years, the person said. The carrier disclosed the 787 order in 2007 and has repeatedly delayed taking deliveries of the aircraft since 2011. In about three years, Jet’s A330s will exit its fleet, the person said.

What do you think is driving Jet to further push their 787's? Is it cash? They have expanded so much lately. I would imagine a few new frames would be needed. But hey in this case I won't question them. I think they, and their partners, have done a good job of at least serving up a competitive (all be it not world class) offering to the EU & US. I would say they should just add HYD-EU, BOM-MAN and then sit and wait. Maybe they already have the fleet for that.

Jet Airways signs agreement with Aeromexico for codeshare flights and frequent flyers programme

June 8, 2017

carrier Jet Airways on Thursday said it has partnered with Mexican flag carrier Aeromexico for codeshare flights and frequent flyers programme. The two airlines have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to give effect to the partnership, Jet Airways said in a release in Mumbai.

The MoU, signed by Jet Airways Chairman Naresh Goyal and Aeromexico Chief Executive Officer Andres Conesa on the sidelines of the IATA Annual General Meeting in Cancun (Mexico), outlines cooperation in the areas of enabling codeshare flights and frequent flyer programmes, it said.

As part of the arrangement, both carriers will code on each other’s services between India and Mexico via common gates in Europe (London Heathrow, Paris Charles De Gaulle and Amsterdam). Codesharing allows an airline to book its passengers on its partner carriers and provide seamless travel to destinations where it has no presence.

To begin with, Jet Airways will place its marketing code ‘9W’ on Aeromexico flights from London Heathrow to Mexico City, the release said adding that in turn, Aeromexico will place its marketing code on Jet Airways’ direct services from London Heathrow to Mumbai and Delhi. The initial codeshare flights via London Heathrow will open for sale as well as travel later this year, subject to government approvals, Jet Airways said in the release. The codeshare partnership will offer passengers enhanced connectivity and seamless access to the combined networks of both the airlines, with convenient connections via Jet Airways’ European gateways, it said.

The comprehensive MoU signed between the two carriers, also includes cooperation in the area of reciprocal frequent flyer benefits for members. At the MoU signing ceremony, Goyal said, “We are delighted to announce our partnership with Aeromexico which will significantly enhance the international reach of both airlines bringing increased benefits to all our guests.”

“We are confident that this new codeshare partnership will stimulate the demand for business and tourist travel between India and Mexico,” he said. The new relationship between Jet Airways and Aeromexico illustrates our commitment as well as strategic efforts to continuously strengthen our network, connecting India with the rest of the world as well as providing opportunity and convenience to our guests who can now connect to Mexico from India via our European gateways and vice versa,” Goyal said.

Conesa said, “It is a great pleasure for us to settle this code share partnership with Jet Airways that will build new bridges and connect Mexico to India more easily. This achievement is a manifest of our will to continuously offer new flight destinations to our passengers. Also, by connecting with an important country as India, Aeromexico creates new cultural bonds and tourism exchange between both nations,” Conesa added.
