In the good old day of Air India, the employees used to proudly call themselves, "Air Indians".

Hah, why did they dig up footage of VT-ENQ, an oddball all white bird that was leased to replace Kanishka? Couldn't they find any 744 footage?

I think this is the first time ever that this forum has unanimously agreed on something. i.e. we do not want Air Indian, keep it as Air India only.

I saw the video a pretty neat one, but not that good CGI when they merged the logo--infact [with no disrespect to my countries flag] the Ashok Chakra could come after the Centaur logo--it would look a bit modern something like a horse rider shooting his target [Again no disrespect intended]

Saw it in Delhi edition of Hindustan Times that the details of the new entity will be out this weekend... The new logo to be a mix between the Maharaja and the Chakra.

The Maharajah was NEVER the Logo for Air India. He was the emissary, the face of the airline, much in the same way that the Singapore Girl is the emisarry and the face of SQ.

Having the Maharajah as part of the livery of the new merged entity as a bonafide "logo" will turn the livery into a cartoonish Hello-Kitty style ANA jet. Keep the Maharajah in advertisements, but for God's sake, keep him off the tail or the fuselage of the planes.

AI, Indian fly closer towards integration Praveena Sharma
Tuesday, April 03, 2007 22:03 IST

Quotes:

BANGALORE: Having got the Cabinet nod, the merged entity of state-owned international and domestic carriers Air India and Indian - National Aviation Company Ltd - is now in the process of drafting the Scheme of Amalgamation under Section 391-94 of the Companies Act.

This would pave the way for the integration of the two national airlines and their subsidiaries — Air India Express (Air India) and Alliance Air (Indian).

Sources in Air India said that once the draft is ready, it would be placed before the boards and shareholders (government) of both airlines for approval, after which a court's nod would be sought.

.....

Even though it is reported that the brand for new firm would be Air Indian, sources close to the development said that the decision on brand and logo for National Aviation Company is not yet final. Sources also informed that the Indian office (in Delhi) has been registered as headquarter of the new company.

I'm guessing/hoping that when they say "Maharajah" they are just referring to the current livery although it should probably be referred to as the Palace livery.

The Maharajah does not belong anywhere outside the plane. Keep him on the inside of the doors as the mascot.

Hey Subin Back after a long time.....Managed to rekindle the Aviation flame or still a spark Smile

I hope The merged Airline sticks to the Name AIR INDIA & the new livery.

I was talking to a few IC AMEs last night & they dont seem too optimistic on the merger although the MRO idea for Mx interests them.
Their concern seems the promotion given to AI Staff pre merger to keep them at a senior level with IC staff after the merger. This should never be permitted if true.

Adding to this.
A bit of potential trouble in the Southern base. IA has apparently been asked to cool it on international flights. AIX is now taking the lead with a sudden spurt in international flights from the hinterland. (Trichy, Mangalore. And now Coimbatore and Madurai are under active consideration).
IA is a bit p***** that its idea is getg hijacked.
Unconfirmed report is that IA has to step back a little on some routes, particularly Singapore, which could see the A300 taken off and replaced with a smaller aircraft. (Idea is to step up load factor with lesser flights than have numerous flights with a poor load).
IA is also not too thrilled about developments on South India-Gulf and Chennai-Colombo, viz AIX.
IA pilots are very worried that their international flying may get nipped a little, and have less flying to do, as they might have to play second fiddle to AIX.
Allowing IA to expand overseas and international allowances was a major factor that really brought peaceful industrial relations viz the unions in IA.

IA CEO Vishwapathi Trivedi is also a bit down, as the "fourth landing" agreed to pilots and aimed at stepping up aircraft utilisation may go for a toss with AI/AIX getting first preference.

Post-merger, it still seems to be a very aggressive AI versus an equally aggressive IA, inspite of what Praful wants us to believe.

Situation is begng to resemble a bit like the Indian team versus Chappel (Praful Patel). Exclamation

Need 380, Mel to confirm.

Yes its true that the A300 is supposed to out of the MAA-SIN route and to be deployed in a domestic sector Rolling Eyes
PP and his thinking zindabad
Also came to know that Trivedi was a bit dejected while announcing this fact and his tone was an upset one. Looks like he won't be in the new airline's board although that man is damn talented, smart and one of the best CMDs IC ever had.
Post merger consequences might not be "too good" as said by some folks based in SIN. Reason because AI and IC are having their own ways. PP himself not optimistic, although a great 'actor' in hiding his thoughts (should i put it as hiding the truth Question )

Well in this country politics plays a major part, so if praful decides how much he can milk both these cows, is to be seen.

We have had a past of many civil aviation ministers milking the state run airlines, praful is just the same, but yes he has better dressing sense and is a straight forward cut guy.

Cut do, kaam karo Laughing

Okay,

Its 90% going to be "Air India". The consultant has told the GoI very firmly that "Air India" has a better rate of recall and if there is any move to call the entity "Air IndiaN", it will delay the launch. There will also be confusion about the brand.

A final decision on this will be taken in exactly a week, but the consultant is having the last word.

The next task now is to accommodate the "Indian" orange Konark wheel on the Air India livery. So there may be reworking on this and some repainting at Boeing Paine Field on "Andhra" and the other two. Personally, not sure how the orange will blend in with Air India red.
Also painting of the ground support equipment for Air India is starting shortly.

Same case likely with the to-be completed A319s and A321s at Toulouse.

I think it would be easy enough. Paint the whole tail red and get rid of the ugly chopped up Centaur. Then replace it with a Chakra in the same dull gold they used for the Centaur. They can stylize it, put it in relief (like CO's globe), or keep it as is. The Centaurs can stay on the engine cowlings which is basically where they belong.

Accenture is beleived to have strongly recommended that the "Indian" colour scheme be retained for the new livery.

Also, it says that the interiors of the planes can have strong elements of orange!!!!!!!!!!!
(Orange, scientifically is not exactly a soothing colour. As a colour for interiors, it is energetic. Can;t be having pax getting hyper on board.)

Things have to move fast now as the idea is to get the manufacturer to carry out paint job changes before more aircraft start rolling off the assembly line.

Thulasi likely to be the CMD of the new airline.
Work on the LCC will begin soon as well. Merging Alliance with AIX. Some of IA's older A320s (about 12) are likely to be dumped in this new entity along with whatever remains of Alliance --- the ATRs, the CRJs (IA wants 6 of these with 12 sets of crew) and the Dorniers.

The new Airbus fleet of IA will go to the parent airline as they will be IFE ready and can adapt to the new service standards of the new outfit. That's the line of thinking.

Boeing/Airbus can leave them green until a livery is decided upon...unless of course they actually take delivery of them.

The problem lies in pleasing both parties ie AI & IC rather than doing whats needed for the merged airline.

I still believe merger will not take place at grass root level. its only the top management that will be merged, aircrafts painted and officially one airline created, basic motive to get good money from the IPOs

I've spoken to folks from both Airlines & yet to get an optimistic response to the Merger.Although the takeover of Mx by an MRO by A & B does interest them for obvious reasons.

Reason because MRO does offer better working facilities, etc. Simple merger makes things worse

One idea making the rounds at Nariman Point is to modify the mutilated Centaur. May be make it smaller and get it in full. Then retain the front half of the Centuar and add the "Indian" Konark wheel to complete the circle.

Doesn;t seem to be great at all.

Better thing would be to have the complete Centaur leap out of the "Konark" wheel.

Also, "Andhra" and the other 2 birds may be heading back to the paint shop.

NEW DELHI: The brand name of the mega-airline emerging from the merger of Air-India and Indian is likely to be ‘Air-India’, and the government may keep the Maharaja mascot intact, a top civil aviation ministry official said on Thursday.

While Accenture, the consultant assisting the government with the merger, will prepare a detailed analysis on the brand name for the merged entity, Air-India seems to be the preferred option, the official said.

One major aspect in favour of brand Air-India is that it will help the merged entity maintain top position in the ABC directory, which lists airlines alphabetically. Air-India is also considered to have high recall value, the official said. When asked about the proposal to brand the new company as ‘Air Indian’ as reported by sections of the media, he said no such option has been considered.

As for the new entity’s logo, Air-India’s famed ‘Maharaja’ seems to be the most preferred choice, while the 'Ashok Chakra' is also a front-runner. The interior of the new aircraft is expected to have a strong tinge of orange.

The merger is now under the scanner. The govt body on Monopolies and Restrictive Trade Practices and the Competition Commission of India have not liked the way the GoI is going about the merger.
The two bodies want all the sops extended to the 2 airlines and the entire bundle of tax concessions to be extended to the private sector as well.

The point is that just because the GoI is the owner, it can;t alter the rules. There must be a level playing field for all players in the sector.

When PP said that there will be no political meddling after the merger, seemed to be a simple statement.
But its a bit complex, may be a long range hint as political fortunes.

The Left is now getting ready to review its ties with the UPA as the Congress is increasingly being seen as anti-aam aadmi.
The BJP is springing out of no where and things may get real bad by the next general election.
Chances are the BJP may be back.

There is no good reason why different companies in this industry should have different laws. Good, at least some people have brains.
