For point and shoots i really thin Canon is better than Nikon. In canon the best for spotting would be the S3 IS. Great zoom with an image stabilizer.

Go for the Canon S3IS or the S2IS. You can't go wrong with that.
Only things you'll miss in it being a non DSLR are the hand zoom, high speed focus and optical view finder.
But if you want to spend more go for the DSLR (N or C). |

It is 12X optical zoom (432mm) in usual sense. |

If you are buying P&S camera don't even go close to a Nikon. They are more noisy, no where close in quality to the above canon models. |

That would be a very good choice. I have Nikon Coolpix S4(without VR), which is older version of S10. VR would make S10 simply superb. Although I do miss optical viewfinder.

optical zoom is what you should be looking for. it is a fuction of lens and the picture quality depends on it.
digital zoom is like blowing up the photo on your favourite photo software. At best picture quality remains same as max optical zoom.
In short, you can easily ignore digital zoom while evaluating cameras.

Thats a nice camera Although I am no expert in cameras, this one appealed to me with its looks. Is it an SLR or a point & shoot one? _________________ MRVC Mania. My blog dedicated to the new violet-white suburban rakes of Mumbai. |

I have narrowed down my choice to 3 models. Which one would you guys suggest? The prices range between Rs. 18K and 20K (Mumbai grey market). All have 12X optical zoom.
Sony DSCP H2
Canon S3 IS
Kodak Z612
Please advise. _________________ Save Maharashtra! |

if i had to get a good serious shooter once and for all... id get myself the CANON EOS 300/350 since they are relatively cheap in BOM
prices are about 38k and up and quite frankly... i've heard almost everyone say they're the best _________________ If it aint Boeing.. I aint going. |

the EOS 400D XT is really super.... but its just too bloody costly...
always happens.... a newer model replacing and older one at a lower price point is always bloody obscenely more expensive than the outgoing one its replacing _________________ If it aint Boeing.. I aint going. |

So any more opinions on D80. Ken Rockwell seems to still suggest D200.
Any experience , esp. comp with Canon?
dpreview, stevesdigicam , says pretty good, worth it. Dpreview gives comp. with Cannon EOS400D and Sony Aphla 100, and all of them pretty par with each other. |
