Is this a promotion for the book in question?? Or is it a reminder that in India, the minimum educational qualification for becoming an airline pilot is a mere 12th standard pass with Maths and Physics???
Interestingly to be a humble Air Traffic Controller slogging it out in the country you need either a Degree in Electronics/Telecommunication/Radio or Electrical and Electronics ENGINEERING with 60% marks OR an MSc in Electronics, Radio Physics or Wireless Engineering again with 60%. |

Maybe because that's all the educational sophistication one really needs to become a pilot?

or even more interestingly, to be an even more humbly paid university professor one must have a PhD, several years of research experience and have published several high impact papers.

The Goat
I am not trying to cast aspersions on any profession... let me make it clear.
All I am trying to understand is what the original post is all about???
Even I am an erstwhile Engineer... I don't try to denigrate that profession, I am the first to accept that it has taught me a lot of things which has made me what I am now. |

TKMCE,
It is quite clear that you were not casting any aspersion on any profession. You were merely pointing out the truth.
Coming back to the topic, I think that book may be an interesting read. Any story about how people succeed in life despite being labelled as failures and dropouts by a mean and judgemental society is worth being told, at least in India.
I wonder which airline Capt Gahlaut flies for? AI? _________________ I don't know which is the more pampered bunch : AI's widebodies (the aunties) or Jet's widebodies (the planes).

Was in that boat, before I jumped ship and moved to greener pastures
Got to admire the likes of you and forum member Sumantarji who have soldiered on for society's good. _________________ I don't know which is the more pampered bunch : AI's widebodies (the aunties) or Jet's widebodies (the planes).

The time I spend on this forum, reading and writing trip reports, will give you an idea of how useless I am, and how much of taxpayers' money I waste.
Cheers, Sumantra. |

I think that qualification level is good enough. As long as the pilot understands the concept of Mach numbers, Airflow , newtonian physics in general and the related Mathematics, there isnt much more that a BE Electronics can do better in the cockpit. The emphasis should be on the ability to "FLY" the plane first and foremost. To that extent all the relevant Air and ground level exams should be rigorously implemented.
The pilot should feel "one" with the machine, should be an extension of his/her body in motion. A lot of the modern automation , unfortunately, ends up in making the pilots trying to "catch up" with the airplane. |

I feel the post looks misleading.....Its nice to talk about how failures help one become successfull in the long run and teach lessons in life...but not sure if its put appropriately _________________ Think of the Brighter side !!! |
