EgyptAir increases baggage allowance to boost numbers
Posted on 30 May 2011 in Air Transport

Egypt's national carrier EgyptAir is to launch a new baggage allowance policy that it claims will lower the cost of travel and add a new dimension for the level of services presented to customers.

The Star Alliance airline will adopt the new policy from Wednesday on all domestic and international flights.

The new policy allows economy class customers on all international flights to carry two free bags weighing 23 kilos each making a total of 46 kilos.

EgyptAir’s group chairman Hussein Massoud, said “In spite of the increase of operating costs because of the soaring oil prices, We have launched this new policy to support the Egyptian customers and to encourage the tourism traffic into Egypt.”

Business class customers can carry two free pieces of baggage with 32 kilos each; this is in addition to one hand bag accompanied onboard with a maximum weight of 7 kilos on all classes.

Customers flying to any domestic destination in Egypt can carry one baggage with a maximum of 23 kilos on economy, 32 kilos on business and an addition seven kilos of hand luggage

EgyptAir frequent flyers can enjoy additional benefits, as the gold card holders can carry an additional baggage with a maximum of 23 kilos. Silver card holders will enjoy a 50 % discount on the third piece of luggage

Check the EgyptAir website for the details.

Good move - need some way to differentiate, and this will not add too much to the costs I presume (assuming the flights are anyway going lightly loaded due to the incidents/ turmoil in Egypt and the fact that this is a dry carrier).

Yeah, so what.

Two free bags means that accident officials will have even more debris to clean up when one of the Egypt air pilots goes suicidal, yells I believe in Allah, and pushes the yoke down. Rolling Eyes
