Here in Delhi, there is now a FREE PARKING facility about a km away from domestic, on AAI land. Works very well and reduces the congestion as well as hassles we had in entering/exitting the existing parking lot.

But now, the NSG has put up a NO PARKING signboard over there, and earlier today tried to enforce it on my car.

Photos are up at the flickr group for A-I.net as well as on my Delhi Airport set at http://www.flickr.com/photos/vm2827/

and I got a long correspondence already going.

Got a parking scam report from Mumbai also, reads like this:-

""We need to find this out at Bombay also. It is as big a loot. I discovered recently that not only have parking charges gone up to Rs 60 for minimum entry at the international airport, but it has become a sort of toll.

Here is how it works. Earlier, when we went to pick someone up at the airport, we simply lurked a little distance and waited for a call after -- say brother or husband or mother -- had cleared customs and was walking out. We then avoided the parking lot, drove straight up to the arrival and drove away. It is not messy, becuase you don't stop anywhere nearby.

Now they have blocked the direct entrance ( simply closed a long nicely surfaced road which will soon be occupied by encroachers) by posting a couple of cops. So everybody has to perforce go into parking, pay the Rs 60 bucks and drive out after receiving the person.

That would have been understandable if there was a Rs 20 charge for say 30 minutes -- why Rs 60? Who are they looting and why?

Also, inspite of paying more, the exits are so badly clogged and chaotic, that they are not even providing service for the money charged. ""

So what are the car parking scams in your city airport?

In BLR, they let you in to the parking area even if it is full. You go around in circles for a few minutes and finally get frustrated and exit. You will be charged Rs. 60.00 for trying to locate a vacant parking.

That sounds like the best so far. Here in DXB there is no where you can wait for anyone, so you have to pay a fee to park at the airport, or keep going round and round in traffic.

Cheers

I believe that’s how it is in most busy airports in America. You can’t wait by the curb to pick up someone you have to drive around in circles or park.
