Oman Air confirmed it signed a letter of intent to acquire five A330-200s, and will sign a formal order "shortly" for the aircraft, scheduled for delivery from 2009 (AFX, 02-Apr-07).

Meanwhile, Oman Air announced plans to launch services from Muscat to Chittagong and Lucknow in May-07 and to Jaipur in Apr-07, although frequency details were not disclosed.

Dont know wether there is enough load factor for them to fill up a plane from Lucknow & Jaipur.

WY can offer connections throughout the gulf , egypt and some destinations in Europe as they code share on some Gulf Air flights

How is the transit at MCT? I mean how are the airports, departure fees compared to other gulf countries?

I am quite surprised to see them start LKO and JAI before CCU. Demand for CCU is fairly high and really there are no easy connections to CCU from MCT. The easier ways of the lot are either get to DXB and then DXB-DAC-CCU. The other option is IC MCT-AMD-DEL and then change to DEL-CCU.

I am not sure if GF flies to CCU, I know it didnt a few years ago.

Airport is pretty basic but enough for the demand. Landing fees for a/c quite high. MH was supposed to start MCT in the 90s but high landing fees was one of the reasons they stayed away.

Cheers

Sounds like the beginning of the end of GF in it's current form - it'll soon move to being Bahrain only.

I'm sure LKO and JAI could fill 320's to MCT - I'm guessing the 332s are for longer haul routes.

@ nimish :

WY has all B737 fleewt (NG , 800 versions)

MCT airport is probably the most basic airport in the gulf

at present AUH is the worst airport followed by MCT

and

@380: departure fees as nearly the same throughout the gulf ... but a short transit in MCT isnt bad as long as u get a good deal on the airline
besides WY is improving noticeably ... and within a year or two i see the exit of GF from MCT as well

about the MCT - india routes ... there is a lot of demand even for the tier 2 cities .. mct is connected to the following cities in india

BOM -- ( WY, GF , AI)
DEL -- ( WY , GF , AI , IC)
CCU -- (GF )
MAA -- ( GF , WY )
HYD -- ( WY , IC )
BLR -- ( GF )
COK -- (GF , WY , IX , IC )
TRV -- ( GF , WY , IX , )
CCJ -- ( IX , IC )
IXE -- ( IX )
AMD -- (IC)

besides AIX operates SALALAH -- COK , CCJ

Yes I think so recently the Baharaini government took over 80% of the share of GF so only 20% left with Oman Air and I am sure as they expand flee they to like other gulf states will withdraw out of Gulf Air.

Well, Jaipur has frequent connections to Dubai with IC and Air Arabia-so it might have a reasonable demand for Muscat as well.
Incidentally some time back IC also had a flight from Jaipur to Singapore/KL via Delhi-but local travel agents said that Jaipur residents would prefer to fly by SIA or MAS from Delhi for a variety of reasons. Apart from the differing quality of service between IC and its competitors, Delhi airport is on the highway from Jaipur so one does not even have to enter Delhi.
