Sorry for my ignorance, but what is an autogyro? I got some dope from: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Autogyro - but not clear what it's used for... _________________ We miss you Nalini! |

Well as the wiki page suggests, it is a light aircraft that uses ***unpowered*** rotors to create lift. As the craft gains speed generated by the forward momentum of the pusher prop, the rotors turn with the airflow and create lift. This means you can have a small craft with stubby wings, instead of big ones (making it heavy and expensive).
However, this method of creating lift carries with it a severe weight penalty and hence autogyros are usually single / dual seaters. They are used mostly for personal use, recreation or observation purposes. This particular one it seems had come down for a product demo. |

Thanks for the clarification, it never sunk in that the rotor is unpowered! _________________ We miss you Nalini! |
