Okay this is the only place i can vent my frustration, so please bear with me, and if you can, provide me insight into this behaviour.

A couple of days ago, we were ready for pushback and requested and obtained clearance for startup, once we pushed back and got the engines going, the ATC asked us to hold at our bay, we did that for a royal 20mins in the meanwhile we heard almost everyone else who requested startup being cleared. We burnt fuel and did sweet nothings.

Today while coming in, these guys ask us to hold (now this is at 9am) over XXX and we go around and around. Now here is the interesting part, they don't give us clearance to descend, but ask us to reduce speed. Pardon me for being a big-mouth, but in all my years I have NEVER experienced this. Finally after a mild threat from the captain we got our way.

Is this common? or is this reserved for the chosen few 'truckers'? (Any insight MEL) Whatever be the case, if you don't want to let us go, don't ask us to startup and wait, and similarly for the descent....

Surprisingly.
Normally govt Airlines gets preference....Thats the hush hush. Smile
Clearing others & asking you to hold for 20 mins is surprising.

Once when i flew to Goa, we landed first and then taxied to a 'side' and a Navy aircraft took off following which a S2 737 landed... the S2 aircraft landed after us and yet we were still holding at the same point when the S2 737 taxies to the bays and then we follow it!
Its too much but at the end of the day its money that pays Mad

Was there any Justification provided by the ATC for this weirdness of holding after pushback for 20 mins while others taxied out.

The only justification we heard was "XXXXXXXXX Please hold until cleared to taxi"

As for the stress on the ATC, well i guess they're doing just fine by spreading it around to everyone else as well!

MEL should be able to tell if his truckers have the same experience as well.

Def Preference is always awarded to Pax Airlines over Freighters & understandably so.However since We are the rare ones taxiing out of Domestic terminal at nights the traffic is not so bad.

I've def had 3-4 occasions when ATC has cleared us for push back & I've double checked an Aircraft txiing behind, informed the crew & ATC then acknowledging & asking us to hold push Twisted Evil

So that way I've saved them a couple of collosions Wink

ATC is def stressed out during peak hrs.A very stressfull job.

No pilots were asked to wait and then after the S2 jet crossed us we were given clearance...all they could do is murmer a few abuses thats it...they said it was regular at many places

The situation at Goa as described by a_380 is normal and a daily routin.

Was in Goa the weekend before. There is simply no place to park aircraft the terminal is crowded.

As aircraft land, they either go to the navy apron and hold there usually about 10 - 20 mins or on the left side of the runway.

Once about 1-2 a/c depart goa, then a/c from either apron come into the civil apron.

One heck of a problem.

One more problem, some international flights that come into goa shut off at their parking for about 1-2 hours. Waste of a slot for the amount of traffic.

Very Happy Prajay

Recall Goa used to have this problem, but as far as I can remember, we would know the runway status before KABSO or AAAII giving enough time to reconfigure the approach. Typically during peak season(remember we used to be wheels up at 5:30am) they would line up aircrafts as they landed to exit via E1 (not sure) and line up in front of the Naval hangar and then once they had all their ducks in a row we'd come in like obedient babies.
