Hi All,
I am starting this thread as a lil tribute to the Air India 747-400s as these Jumbos are being retired from the fleet. You may use this thread to post photos clicked of your encounters with the Jumbos during the last few runs.
Kicking off with two interior shots
The rear Economy Class cabin of VT-EVA "Agra"
The Executive Class cabin on the upper deck of VT-EVA "Agra"
Enjoy!

A couple more..
The middle Y Class cabin of VT-EVA
Note how the cabin tapers towards the front. Behind those curtains is First Class.

Air India are crazy. Why on earth did AI wait all these years to refurbish the desperately-in-need-of-refurbishment 747-400 (an aircraft that flew most of the flagship routes), and then promptly dispose off them after completing such a superb overhaul
I have to say, the Economy Class on VT-EVA looks superb. That's really easily the best-looking Economy Class I've seen in a long while. I'll actually stick my neck out and say it's looking better than the 777-200LR/777-300ER Economy Class, which is also quite good. Though maybe the 77L/77W Y screens are bigger and the seat amenities may be better. But I can scarcely believe that that is a photo of an AI 747-400.
Just terribly sad that they're leaving so soon after getting such an incredible interior overhaul done And just terribly confusing why AI chose to wait so long to do the overhaul _________________ The way I see it, you can either work for a living or you can fly airplanes. Me, I'd rather fly.

Vivek, nice thread for AI's workhorse for over decade.
Heres one of my favourite snap from the collection. "Konark" has already tucked in reversers and slowed to taxing speed
to take next exit as she majestically poses in front of the famous landmark on a gorgeous evening.
Cheers,
Raj |

Seeing Sanchi in all her glory in the pictures above makes me realise how lucky I've been to fly and "jump-seat" aboard her, during one of my trips to the US of A! _________________ Why can't Donuts be square? |

They still fly!! Got lucky last evening to catch her majesty VT-ESP Ajanta after a powerful take off. Pity the light was dying... but the sight of her will forever remain etched in my memory.

AI can yet recover from their abyss if they decide to streamline operations, routes flown and employee morale. I guess this can only be done with professionals at the helm and not the nutty netas and their opaque decision making process.
When the going is good the AI crew is second to none in service food and flying experience - now that new hardware is on line - streamlining operations professionally can bring the load factors in me thinks.
Flew an AI jumbo only once in 1988 - from Madras to Singapore - wasnt much to write home about, given the late departure, robotic service and overtly made up stewardesses. But the AI 747 with her striking livery always gave me goosebumps everytime i saw her at any International airport, be it London, Los Angeles or Lusaka.
The refurbished interiors seen above was a ridiculously short term swan song, which if done 3-5 years earlier might have saved AI more passengers. They really do look beautiful, classy and Bharathiya.
