|
|
My friend is supposed to fly BOM-SIN on AI and says he was told there will be IFEs.
My questions (please excuse my ignorance about them)
1. Which A310 of AI has IFEs?
2. Even if a particular aircraft does have how can the staff assure him that only that aircraft will be deployed in that route?
3. Or maybe are they operating some leased A310s particularly on that route? If so then whats its regn? _________________ http://www.myspace.com/avsatsworld

380,
Most of the A310 fleet has IFE. Tattered screens that need to be hammered into place. If you expect in-seat screens, jut forget it.
Seating is as clean as you can expect in Indian Railways a/c.
Lots of legroom which is a huge plus.
May remind of a bit of IA A320 J class, but which is inferior to IA. May be in a shade of faded peacock blue.
AI A310 IFE is usually a scrambled egg of BBC News and "Chitrahaar" type --- song and dance sequences from a variety of our languages.
Might screen a film or two.
The inflight music is worth it. Good choice. About 8 channels of variety.
Currently, Air India's best and owned A310s, Narmada and Krishna are out of service. At Dresden being converted into freighters.
So that leaves you with the rest of the six owned and the remaining 13 leased A310s
Of them, Periyar and Damodar are quite okay as they are ex-SQ.
Owned:
VT-EJG Yamuna GE-CF6-80C2A2
VT-EJH Tista GE-CF6-80C2A2
VT-EJI Saraswati GE-CF6-80C2A2
VT-EJJ Beas GE-CF6-80C2A2
VT-EJK Gomati GE-CF6-80C2A2
VT-EJL Sabarmati GE-CF6-80C2A2
VT-EQS Krishna GE-CF6-80C2A2 At Dresden
VT-EQT Narmada GE-CF6-80C2A2 At Dresden
(All the owned A310s were supposed to get new laminates in the interiors, refurbished toilets, leather finish seats in J and reworked IFE -- Sony Beta Transcom.)
Leased:
VT-EVW Cauveri GE-CF6-80C2A2
VT-EVX Luni GE-CF6-80C2A2
VT-EVE Periyar PW-4152
VT-EVF Mahanadi PW-4152
VT-AIA Tapti PW-4152
VT-AIB Pennar PW-4152
VT-AIG Kosi PW-4152
VT-AIH Tungabhadra PW-4152
VT-AIN Damodar PW-4152
VT-AIO Vaigai PW-4152
VT-AIP Pamba P&W-4152
Each A310 has the IFE on a particular channel, so you will have to refer to "Namaskaar" and find this rubbish in the IFE guide.
So your freind has to find out if its Owned, SIA dry leased or Other dry Lease!!!!!!!!!!! Totally crazy!!!

As far as the IFE is concerned , one bollywood movie some stupid programmes will be the IFE and please dont expect PTV's your asking too much.
I think so EK is the only airline operating an A310 with a PTV |

The agent tells him about PTVs sorry forgot to mention. Or maybe something like telling Karan about a 'Normal 747 without upper deck' _________________ http://www.myspace.com/avsatsworld

Don't just blame the airline! Passengers contribute to the terrible mess. Ppl using the head rest covers and seat belts to clean up after a meal is not uncommon.
Generally better to stick to Air India's own A310s or the ex-SQ A310s.
Anyway, most of the A310s are now doing more domestic. Classic case is Mumbai-Bangalore-Chennai and Mumbai-Chennai.
The 737-800s are slowly taking over the A310 international routes!!
9W is going to give both AI and IA competition now. 9W intends using the A330 on Mumbai-Singapore and Chennai-Singapore, while AI will continue using the A310/737-800 and IA, the A320/A300. |

I ended up SIN-DEL-BOM on a SIN-BOM ticket, on an AI 310, so decided to disembark at DEL . . . and also ate enough at SIN Airport not to require any more on board.
So when the cabin crew, who were running short of food, figured out that I was a non-eater, they presented me with a full bottle of champagne as well as a full bottle of wine. That was entertainment enough.
In addition, the flight had a wonderful Chief Steward/Purser/Head of cabin Crew, who went about the aircraft cracking jokes with most people, being absolutely a great guy and at one stage, handling some drunks with amazing skills. That was more entertainment than I can ever get.
Aircraft was old, interiors were tatty, but the crew were superb as a group.
And the plane smelt of greaaaat food. Including the "MoPlease". |
