Korean Air's private Business Jet is a winner

SEOUL, Dec. 21 (UNI)
To save time, a growing number of businesspeople are using private business jets. Passengers can travel on their own schedule to destinations to which no direct flights are offered. The market for ``limos in the sky" is growing, and the demand for them is increasing in Korea, as well.

Here, Korean Air is the only carrier that operates a business jet.

The carrier has rented a Gulfstream IV aircraft since its introduction in 1995. It is the same model of airplane as the one golfer Tiger Woods owns, and nine of the world's top 50 companies have that type of aircraft.

, Urumqi, China, or Guam.

The 14-seat plane has satellite phone, tables, sofas, audio and video on demand, and an electricity supply for laptops.

Some of the seats can be transformed into beds. Passengers can also order in-flight meals. Korean Air's in-flight meals have won prizes including the Mercury Award from the International Travel Catering Association.

During the 2002 World Cup, the aircraft carried dignitaries of the Federation Internationale de Football Association (FIFA), including Edson Arantes do Nascimento, better known by his nickname ``Pele."

In November last year, former U.S. President George H. W. Bush visited Andong, North Kyongsang Province, during his visit to Korea. He used the business jet to get from Andong to China.

But the most attractive feature is the customer-tailored schedule.

Many overseas airports have separate immigration counters for VIPs on private jets, which also saves time for time-crunched executives. Some airports even allow such VIPs to head straight to their final destination in a car that is waiting on the runway.

``The demand for the private business jet is expected to grow as more and more Korean enterprises are engaged in global business and the Korean entertainment industry is becoming more globalized," a Korean Air official said.

Though this might look good its still out of reach for a common man... So even if VJM would come up with such ideas, im sure profitability won't be much in India

On the topic of business jets. Air Deccan was planning this route ---- operating "non-commercial" flights to the US and for the very high premium end of traffic between India and the US using BBJs.

This plan and Deccan's Sri Lankan airline plan have been frozen for a while.
