Hi All,
Posting this on behalf of a colleague. Any help or pointers in this regard would be appreciated. TIA.
Recently I did travel from US to India along with my family (wife & infant) and had a horrible experience.
My Delta flight got delayed in Dubai and ended up messing remaining itinerary of the connected flight. In the process, this is what I have got from Delta:
- Ticket rebooking only for the next connecting flight (by bearing the rebooking charges)
This is what they should have done, that they did not do:
- No hotel-accomodation/lounge-access
- No rebooking charges for the subsequent connecting flights
- Lounge hotel access in the next destination
We had to deal with agony faced by my infant as we ran short of baby food. Eventually my son fell sick after having restaurant food at aiport. We had to stay for 16 long hours on the Dubai airport. We were neither responded properly by Delta airline nor were entertained by Delta lounge on the airport. To make the matter worse, when we did reach Mumbai airport, another 12 hours stay was waiting for next flight in connecting airline.
All this was clubbed with the missing luggage which was delivered to me after few day, forcing me another trip to local airport.
At the moment I am persuading the compensation from Delta for the legitimate expenses. However, there is no concrete response from the airline so far.
What are my rights in this case? Did anybody made any claims for compensation in similar circumstances? Please share your experience.
Any suggestions are welcome.

The problem here is interlining. While Delta has an ATL-DXB flight, it does not fly between DXB and India so an interline partner is involved.
Interlining is dicey at the best of times and doing so in a third country other than the origin or destination (in this case DXB) is not exacty the smartest way to fly with an Infant when there are any number of other options available which does not involve interlining. May be a little or lot more expensive, but then with ain infant on a long haul, should one care that much ???
Apologise for being off topiic , but travelling with infants on long hauls is something which should be done with a lot of plannning and practical thought!!!
As for passenger rights, there is a an aviaiton lawyer around in these forums so I leave it to his expertise!!! |

Justbala:
What are the particulars of the tickets? USA to India Via DXB? or USA-DXB (one ticket) then DXB to India (a separate ticket)?
