The new Livery looks nice, better than many of the current liveries. But, the palace windows should be bigger. At their present size, they are not recognizable from a distance. _________________ MRVC Mania. My blog dedicated to the new violet-white suburban rakes of Mumbai. |

Actually the livery does look nice ... frankly i like the golden and red shdes combined but the palace windows which actually were the best part of AI's aircrafts have almost 'dissappeared' and the centaur seems to have been mutilated with a knife _________________ http://www.myspace.com/avsatsworld

The livery looks good. I feel it would look better if the palace windows had a touch of gold. _________________ Save Maharashtra! |

Is that color really called mera waala cream or is it just something you've made up, Aseem?
Mera waala cream sounds like the flavor of some exotic Kulfi. |

Anybody knows or car guess what happens to these unveiled women on tails when the aircraft visit Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, or are used for Hajj flights? I am thinking, some of Francis Newton Souza's paintings would really stir things up!! |

For those who want to know what the AI new colour scheme signifies.
From the marketing report:
The cream color and a deeper red complement convey the
warmth and hospitality that Air India is known for - with the gold
trimmings emphasising a premium product and service. The dynamic, bold
and gold coloured Centaur on its tail and engines whilst displaying
vitality -

This is the offical livery according to Praful Patel - MCA.
The fuselage is not white but a sort of cream or peral colour.

Saw this lady go to the paintshop while doing my conversion in KPAE. I understand that there is an extra pair of shockers per under-carriage that AI has asked for specifically on the LRs. Looks like AI's doing another first like IA did with the double bogeys on the 320. |

Yuck!
The old livery atleast signified "INDIAN". WTF does this new livery signify? Centaur? A god from the European pantheon on an Indian aircraft?

The Centaur's been Air India's symbol since 1948 put in place by the Greatest man in Indian aviation and has been flying on EVERY Air India aircraft since 1948. Do you need glasses? Besides, who cares if its Greek or Somali or Eskimo? Air India claimed it as its own and made it Indian, much in the way that India takes foreign things (like the English language) and makes it Indian.
What next? Are you going to start using the fields to take a dump instead of using a flush toilet? Chew neem leaves instead of using toothpaste? Enough of this misplaced Swadeshi nonsense. |

The old livery had the centaur in a little corner that nobody would notice! It was the maharaja and those palace windows that gave an otherwise sorry airline like Air India an identity and not a inconsequential European god!
Jaysit: I understand that you like "Horse-men" on your tail , but please understand that Indian culture is not comfortable with lifestyle choices like that! Atleast not enough to put gross designs like that on the tails of aircraft of an airline flying our national flag! And "mera wala cream"? I know Jaysit must be having raptures at the thought of all the "cream", but that color is so gross!
Karan: I have read what the AI PR machinery has to say about the new livery. But mebbe its just me: but I think Air India should go back to the old livery 'cos this one sucks. Regardless of whatever the AI publicist has written on what the livery signifies, AI' sproblems dint begin with the livery. And wont end with it! _________________ http://www.cougar-rides.com

I think AI Express is doing a much better job of protraying "Indian" theme than parent AI. (though they did go overboard with Ravi Verma paintings!). With "Incredible India" campaign on in full steam, one would think Air India would do this for mainline AI aircraft. After all AI's 747's go all over the world and those beautififully painted tails showing Indian charms to the world would have been a great contribution to this campaign!
Instead they go out and do THIS! Put a European horseman on the tails of their aircraft! A complete disaster!
it seems with this idiot Thulasidas leading the show, Air India can never do ANYTHING right! Look at what they are planning with tax-payers oney: all business airline, LCC airline to Europe, freight airline etc etc!
They lease out brand new 737-800's to Indian Airlines and according to the grapevine Air Sahara as well, and then lease in a clapped out and aged 757-200 at atrocious lease rates to supplement capacity? Sheeks!
As i said before, their problems are NOT their livery! Their problem is Thulasidas. And the culture of corruption! _________________ http://www.cougar-rides.com

This is to tackle the runway conditions at the airports in the Siberian region marked for diversion/emergency. The LRs will predominantly using the Trans-Polar routes and Siberia, including a pioneering route that will take Air India over Mongolia. |

First of all, I don't need a lesson in Indian culture from you. Nor does JRD Tata, may he rest in peace.
Second, all the Indians I know are quite comfortable with my being gay, as are they comfortable with the Indian President being gay.
Third, your comment is completely out of line in this thread, where we are talking about Air India's livery and not my sexuality.
Fourth, no one as ugly as you are, should be talking about the attractiveness or unattractiveness of anything, let alone an airline's livery.
Fifth, the Maharajah aint going away - he is an icon for the airline.
Sixth, your stupid comment about the centaur being smaller or larger or whatever is asinine. AI's Connies and 707s had the Centaur in full view on the tail and fuselage. As do the AI HQ Building.
Seventh, I suggest you dig your poop once you are done. |

The indian president is gay?
Watch where you are going dude!! You shouldnt cast aspersions on anyones character in this manner! The President of India is a highly respected individual and DONT YOU DARE cast aspersions on his character in this manner! You may be gay yourself, and everybody is ok with that. But why is it that homos think that every other person is also similarly inclined? I mean please!
In any case post-1971, the Centaur has been relegated to a small place on the engine nacelle: nothing more. As far as brand recognition goes, show the average joe passenger the Centaur an dhe will never be able to recognise it! But show him the maharaja, or show him the IC orange logo or the 9W logo and there is instant recognition! _________________ http://www.cougar-rides.com

Cougar - I don't know if the president is gay or not, but I'm amused by your response. Being gay is hardly an "aspersion on the character", your sexuality has nothing to do with your capabilities at work.
But please let's take this discussion offline to Non-Av if we want to discuss this any further. |

Roy, Cougar, whoever you are - frankly, you have no business bringing up anyone's sexuality in a forum on airline liveries, but since you did you're now being exposed for what you are - a muck raking, jholla wallah poseur, as declasse and small-minded and hypocritical as they come. You've never been able to argue on the merits on A.net, and it appears that you're bringing your ugly goondagiri on here. Take it elsewhere - Bihar maybe. Or some corner of Ahmedabad that worships Narendra Modi.
But since you clearly so obsessed with other people's sexuality, here goes - since when did being a highly respected individual preclude being gay? Maybe in your Indian "culture" (or lack of it) is being gay something terrible. Abdul Kalam is widely known to be as queer as a three dollar (or shall I say three rupee) bill. See, that's one more thing about "Indian culture" that you didn't know. There are, however, parts of Indian culture that you are an expert on - bigotry, small-mindedness, bogus swadeshi lecturing.
And, btw, you don't understand what the Maharajah is - he never was part of the airline's livery, but a mascot of the airline (a rather liberal, free-wheeling one based on Bobby Kooka's real life persona). In your phony bharat maata view of the world in which people only recognize AI by the Maharajah, the Maharajah would have to be on the tail of the airplane for recognition. That isn't the place for a mascot. As for IC's stylized IA on the tail, it's gone. Over, finished, kaput. Since you miss it so much, maybe you can put a big vibhuti tilak on your forehead designed as one. |

gentlemen plz dnt discuss things that would create ruckus between fellow members
@ cougar
the sexuality of a person has got nothing to do with his deeds .. so even if he is gay that need not be discussed here
secondly please dnt go on zenith levels to criticize AI's livery .. u dnt like it
fine .... After all ppl go for the service of an airline not by the way the planes look... and we all knoow what apalling services AI has ,,, so eben if u get a livery of ur choice AI will remain as a poor airline!!!!
look at SQ , EK , no gr8 livery's but still are one of the top notch airlines in the industry |

very well said. I am nt a AI fan at all bt then i do agree that liveries dont matter. Since the nature of the industry is very much service oriented i guess thats what it counts.
Quite number of nri,s i guess seem to fancy AI because of the desi khana being served on board .
Well i wud rather fly in a carrier which provides me better inflight service. And if i am real big fan of indian food might pre reserve a desi meal and wont shy away frm adding few drops of tobasco to make it look more indian. _________________ Expeditors- You'd be surprised how far we will go for you www.expeditors.com |

I agree with you. The old one was brilliant, but it is time for a change. This new livery isn't brilliant, but it has some shining elements. At the end of the day, no one is going to really care about the livery, but will judge AI for the condition of its planes, its service standards and professionalism. Right now, its planes are dirty, its service standards variable, and its professionalism up for debate. |

Majority of the (corners) of Ahmedabad worships Narendra Modi and still there is no "goondagiri".
That is besides the point. This is getting out of hand. Please do not drag politics into this forum. |
