Posted: Fri Nov 30, 2007 1:06 am Post subject: Rotation of Mods |
|
|
Hi mods/fellow ai.netters:
I have a strange but pertinent suggestion, i suggest that a few of the mods should be rotated, meaning that based on performance, the mods should be retained or replaced.
I think its essential to keep the sanity of this forum in check, after a particular period of time the existing mods seem to fizzle out and we need fresh blood.
Thats just my point of view, let me know if anyone thinks otherwise or has other suggestions.
Warm regards

Well it's not a bad idea , as in we can have 2 fixed and one rotating MOD. But then again Ogden Nash's lines we have to ask the MODS regarding the same. |

I think we guys are lucky that way, all our mods are highly respected people who really arnt the "erratic" kinds, and i think for the promotion of this site, they would happily listen and act on our suggestions.
After all this site is intended for its members and not merely for the mods.
also, i see this site doing really well in the future, i see one more shift of servers, on the lines of a.net.

A Good idea.
Im in favour of it.
Only condition is that the people chosen have the interest of this forum in mind as priority.
Wrong persons chosen could ruin this forum forever.
Maybe the members could suggest some names or ideas which could be considered.

Thanks Mel:
Thats what i was talking about, you guys are as enthusiastic to keep this site in good spirits as anyone else.
I would recommend that the new mods are purely chosen by the team of biggies in the site, i would suggest Aseem in consultation with yourself or nimish. Actually all the mods could sit down and discuss names.
The way A.net does it is actually a good method, invite applications for interested persons, maybe divide the mods team into two, One who looks after the "ethics" and the others looking after the "content". That ways there is division of labour and things should get done more swiftly.
Further, there should be set rules, that the mods must log in everyday, or every second day or something like that.

Oh one more thing, if the mods feel that the rotation aspect is too far fetched to start with, then why not increase the number of mods from the current 4 to say 7, on a trial basis, so the old mods can advise the new ones, and it would continue so on and so forth.

I would suggest three names
* Karan
* Nitin
* Myself ( just wanted to ask if there is any problem to have a girl MOD )
But barring me I would suggest Karan and Nitin |

Sure Nimish:
Here are links to their "ads" in the airliners.net site related forum.
http://www.airliners.net/discussions/site_related/read.main/42353
Attention A.netters - The Moderating Team is currently looking to select 4-8 (give or take) members to join the Moderating Crew. Due to the fact in the past the hiring process has become bogged down and taken forever to finish, the process is going to be very exact this time. If you have interest, then continue reading and pay close attention to how the process will work.
1.) We will accept "applications" from those interested in joining for 2 days only. They will be accepted this coming Saturday and Sunday only (Nov. 12th and 13th). Any applications sent in before the deadline or after the deadline will be automatically deleted. Obviously time zones will come into play so applications being received on the night of the 11th through late Sunday Night will be accepted to hopefully be as fair as possible for all members in different time zones.
2.) Since there is no standard "application" form its up to you to give us some content you think will be helpful to us in making our decisions. We do not want novels but we would like something more substantial than the "I would like to join the team" applications. A time commitment is very important and we will be looking for that.
3.) Depending on how many applications we receive will determine how long it will take to start selecting our finalists and eventually who we will ask to join the team. Once the applications are counted we will know how long we will need to discuss all entries. We would like to keep this to 3 weeks or so. From there approx. 1 more week to pick the ones we will ask to join the team.
4.) If you have questions, do not start threads in site related or anywhere else. Email the moderators at moderators@airliners.net or ask your questions in this thread. We will monitor it as best we can.
5.) This notice is going up a couple days in advance for those of you interested to be ready to email in your application and to answer any possible questions that may arrive.
The requirements are few that we do ask for.
- At least one year of active membership on the forums
- A commitment to be an active part of the team
I think that covers them.
Good luck to all those that wish to apply.
AND
http://www.airliners.net/discussions/site_related/read.main/44852
After quite some time, the new moderators have been selected. Before they are names, I want to thank everyone who applied to become a moderator. In the near future, those not selected at this time may be called upon again to see if their interest in the position is still there, as we will look to hire a few more in the near future. Thanks again to all those who took the time out to apply. We all appreciate it.
Also, before I continue, we mods know there was a lot of criticism out there because this process took us a long time to complete. In the long run, the time taken was the result of many different things, but especially the fact that we wanted to select the best available candidates to join the mod team. Many of you see the time frame as just something to attack the mods over, and that's fine. Ultimately we wanted to make sure we got it right, and at this time, we believe we did.
Lastly, the number of actual applicants were small overall. The mods take a beating regularly over our actions and rules etc. We all found it quite a shame more people didn't apply in an effort to do good for the site. I guess its just easier to attack and criticize than step up. Thanks again to those willing to take the challenge that is being a moderator.
Finally, we have selected 4 new moderators. They are as follows:
Garnetpalmetto
Diamond
Horus
And when he returns to being an active user, if he still is interested in the position, OYRJA. He asked for his name to be removed as he was going to have a period of inactivity, but he received a lot of support so we want to still offer him the chance to be a mod upon his return.
A final thanks to all those that applied and worked with us during the time it took to make the final selections.
Nimish, hope this helps.
Regards
Nitin |

Hmmmm...I quite liked this suggestion. Anyways, I am out of this moderator business as my aviation related knowledge is far less than most of the other members. _________________ MRVC Mania. My blog dedicated to the new violet-white suburban rakes of Mumbai. |

Guys - thanks for your enthusiasm, but even if we do decide to go for addnal moderators, it may not be based on voting, but may be based on self-nominations and the quality/quantity of posts made in the past year.
So please let's not get into the wrong mood by making nominations for others, since it's possible we might end up ignoring any suggestions and proposals (for specific moderators) made in this thread. |

So much for democracy
However a female moderator could help both, regulate the language and yes send out a good & strong message amongst other female aviators, that we believe in equality _________________ I love the smell of Jet Fuel in the morning. |

Guys - let me set the record straight! We have not yet made up our minds on taking new moderators.....
My comment was only that if we do decide to take new mods - we'll make the announcements in advance, but that nominations on this thread may have no value at that time.
But lets keep the discussion going! |

I agree with Nimish, there shouldnt be any recommendations given by the members, here is how im looking at it:
1. First and foremost, Aseem has to decide on what he would like to do, after all all due credit for this website goes to him, He is the Johan of Airliners-india.net.
2. Even if he does decide to go for it, the discussion must plain and simply be between him and his team of moderators.
3. The alternate way could be that firstly, members send in their applications during a specific time, the mods sift through them and shortlist a few names, and then they may directly appoint the members, or once they are down to a few members, they can start a 24 or 48 hours poll and leave the question for the members to answer.
If the above is used, i dont know how practical it would be, with people being able to sign up under false names and vote for themselves.
Over all, whichever way we decide, i think this site needs big changes, it will only do us better, we have reached 70% of our target, i remember when we were just struggling past the 35 member mark and were soliciting this site on other big aviation websites.
We can really be a big player in the aviation scene in India, we definately have more motivated people than those other "groups" started around India like the Passengers Society or whatever its called.
As it is we have influential people roaming around in these forums, and its up to us to make the most of it.
Remember, in the future, we may be the lucky ones who signed up with no memebership fee!
Its all about foresight, lord knows Aseem might sell of this site in another 10 years for over a million $ like Johan did with airliners.net.
Warm regards

i think its just quite simple.. put up a list of names.. and let everyone post a reply with the name of the person they vote in and say +1.
At the end of a set time period, just total them up and seal the nomination.
eg. Karatecatman +1. _________________ If it aint Boeing.. I aint going. |

When The selection process commences & applications for the mods positions are sought,it would be based on the Amount of time a member can devote to this site as one of the many reasons.
Stay tuned.....There will be news soon.

Gentlemen - we have solicited self-nominations for the mod role for the past week on this forum, and have received 2 such nominations till now. I would encourage anyone else looking to become a mod to send in their nomination today to airlinersindia@yahoo.com, as today's the last day to receive nominations! |
