Airbus announced the European Aviation Safety Agency and the US Federal Aviation Administration approved the A380 to operate from 45 m wide runways – the width of most of the world’s major airport runways (AP, 31-Jul-07)

I think the bigger problem is because the engine overhang is 50 m - leading to the risk of the engines sucking in some debris or dust/grass etc. I don't think that problem has gone away yet (or ever will).

FOD can be a serious issue. There has to be no gravel besides the Runway surface around the Inlet Areas of the outboard Engines.

Finally puts and end to the ever-present myth that the 380 can't land on code E runways.

Hmmm, I was fortunate to witness the A380's sojourn at CSIA. You should have seen the outboard engines kicking up clouds of dust on the taxiway as well as takeoff. All this even after the fireengines sprinkled gallons of water onto the muddy areas of the taxiway and the main runway 09/27. I suppose dangerous situations like the above call for desperate measures !!! Shocked Shocked
