Presidential polls: A messy affair
www.dnaindia.com/report.asp?NewsID=1104809
Quotes:
The contest for the post of the next President of the Republic of India is now beginning to enter the realm of the farcical and the absurd. Despite the pious platitudes on all sides about the need to maintain decorum and not drag the august office into any kind of cheap, petty politicking, the run-up to the elections has become mired in just that.
Ever since the UPA announced the name of Pratibha Patil as its candidate, the ranks of all the different opposition groupings have been thrown into a tizzy. It doesn’t matter if her name came up by accident or crafty political design — the fact is that it was so out of the box that it caught the imagination of many. In addition, it has turned out to be a catalyst that is bound to lead to political upheavals and perhaps realignments too.
It will be interesting to see how a Rashtrapathni functions, irrespective of how she came to be nominated or as the conspiracy theorists say, was done with the likely wheeling and dealing arising out of the results of General Elections 2009. |

I am pretty disappointed by the way the preparations for this poll are going on. It has been transformed into another war of the political parties. I don't care who wins the poll, but a highly knowledgeable person like Dr Kalam should not get involved in these politics. _________________ MRVC Mania.
