That is a massive downgrade for BOM. What is LH thinking?

The A350 is fantastic. So much more comfortable than the A330.

On a Thursday, the flight Munich to BOM was half empty and business class was nearly empty. This was mid February and I paid a very low fare. With the introduction of KLM flight to BOM, everyone is suffering a bit, unless they price the flight at very low prices.

I don't think the KLM 3X a week is affecting LH. I think it's the AF/KL/9W/VS partnership. Aside from KL, you had 9W add BOM-AMS and add a BOM-LHR flight and retime their BOM-CDG. Take these plus the original 2X to LHR and 1X to CDG and you have a ton of EU and NA options by that group.

Coupled with 9W's large FFP base in India/ BOM specifically. Definitely serious competition. LH/ AI don't really have much collaboration to speak of.

I've always thought it was crazy how little LH & AI cooperate (but it's better than AI/UA). On all four of my last 9W BOM-EU flights, Jet crew upgraded Jet FF from J to F. While not the best business model for F class, if you are stuck with an empty F class, at least get goodwill with your FF. I am sure top tier business travelers have noticed that you have a good chance of a F upgrade form J. Makes flying Jet worth it. I am a DL flyer so no upgrade for me. Maybe LH should retime the MUC flight to something different. I love 9W's 9:50am BOM-LHR flight (for both trips to LHR or continuing to JFK). Nice option to have vs normal 2am departure.

What are they thinking? That's easy - they are, likely, sensibly, putting their brand new plane on a more profitable route.

Exactly. Besides, what's wrong with the A330? The J Class product is the same as on the A350, and I'd argue that a 2-4-2 is far more comfortable than a 3-3-3 in Economy.

Exactly - its an upgrade for the Y passenger.

The swap is not that much a surprise - using anecdotal evidence as is the norm in these forums, earlier this year, I was able to score a front cabin award last minute on BOM-MUC-EWR as I was on the cab heading to BOM airport (when it was becoming apparent that my upgrade on UA49 was not going to clear).

I guess the ability of German airlines and their managers to think out of the box leaves a lot to be desired too; or wait; is that privilege reserved for Indians only ?

LH and the others like the ME3 have historically shown a far better knowledge of the Indian market and Indian customer than the peeps in AI. This is why your fellow countrymen still fly them in huge numbers.
Sorry to prick your nationalistic balloon but yes, that is a privilege reserved for Indian airlines and their mangers only .

there is not much difference left in PRemium seat count between the 359s and 333s after First class has been removed from the 333s

the 333s r now configured
42C / 28E / 185M

359s are configured
48C / 21E / 224M and
36C / 21E / 262M

As u can see its more a loss in Y seats , which gets managed with the SN brussels flight

Agreed this looks like they just can't fill Y at a reasonable price. Makes total sense. J is usually not as susceptible to loss of pax based on discounts given corp accounts and FF programs. Seems like they are just feeling all the increased capacity into BOM and are not getting as much Y flyers who are not tied to them and/or STAR/AI. The sky isn't falling. BTW I am sure LH coordinates between all their brands out of BOM (meaning having certain brands discount more/less depending on how much they need the feed into their EU hubs). Your SN point is probably spot on.

Oh they seem to be running a 748 on FRA-BOM in the summer and winter season (I think int he past summer would get downgraded to something other than the 748). So maybe they are ensuring the ever popular 748 can fly to BOM profitably (which means cutting seats somewhere else).
