Hey everyone
Off recent, there have been various posts which do no not relate to Indian Aviation and/or photographs taken by the members here.. (I'm sure others are allowed, too ) in the Airliners-India Facebook group.
People try to advertise their aviation industry training, or other non-aviation nonsense (let alone Indian aviation) by posting links into the group. Then there's the daily greetings with the some highly unlikely designs of what presumably are planes. Or worse, even those surveys which are 'fun games to see how many people are active on the group.'
The group is reasonably sized - 1500 members and growing by the day. And lets face it, there will be more of those useless spam posts.
I call upon some reforms to this group, which will hopefully lead to a better experience overall..
1. Pinned post highlighting the rules of posting in the group.
2. Issuing warnings to those who do not abide by this
3. Promoting senior members here (or the youth) as admins in the Facebook group.
4. Changing post settings in such a way that only admins can approve of the same (which is why there should be a few more admins, if possible)
Thoughts? Suggestions?
Regards

I have noticed this as well. This seems to be a problem among Facebook groups with large membership numbers. Based on my experience, the only effective solution is for the admins to make clear that those who make commercial/spam posts will be removed from the group and their content deleted. In addition, the group could be converted into a closed group, where membership needs to be approved by the admins. _________________ http://openflights.org/user/akumanduri |

1. The FB group is not managed by the current Forum admins (though Aseem is the sole admin there, I don't think he does anything administrative on that group).
2. I bet Aseem would be happy to transfer admin permissions to anyone interested to take over and clean up the place. However - I'll let Aseem confirm/ deny that himself. _________________ We miss you Nalini! |

Thanks for your responses!
Was enraged to see yet another spam this evening, selling glasses this time.
I hope Aseem sir looks into this really soon and we start taking the measures! |

A couple of things here. Changing it into a closed group will put additional burden of approving or disapproving, and resultant grievances. IMHO! It will be far better if we leave it as it is. I would urge members to take ownership upon themselves to report posts as spam. It goes without saying that I too will be keeping a watch on the posts. Also, I wouldn't mind sharing administrator role with somebody who has been on the parent site for quite some time now.
Keep thoughts flowing...

Agreed

Agreed again, but it might not be enough..it might never be enough

Exactly what I'm asking for...this will help greatly and hopefully improve the quality of posts in the group. I belong to a F1 group on Facebook which has over 13k members, and with 10 admins on board, the quality of discussion, debates and posts in general have improved greatly ever since they took new admins on board and made sure posts are approved before being posted onto the group.
Any thoughts, any one else?

Actually quite a few members have come forward to report spam, and those members have been removed/banned. So, it is working. If I find it unmanageable, I will seek help regarding sharing burden.
thnx
