Cathay Pacific confirms plans to review FFPs to focus on high-value customers

Cathay Pacific confirmed plans to review its FFPs, noting the airline’s Marco Polo Club is too popular and unsustainable in its current form (South China Morning Post, 18-Jan-2015). The carrier said complaints include crowded lounges and overextended priority boarding privileges with the result that high-spend frequent flyers no longer feel valued. Cathay said the current distance-flown accrual method is "not always the best measure of value," adding: "Airlines all over the world are recognising the anomalies created by a mileage or sector-based reward and recognition system." The changes are expected to take effect from early 2016. As previously reported by CAPA, Cathay Pacific reportedly plans to implement changes including no elite qualification from travel on other carriers, with rewards and status to be focused on passengers who pay for premium cabins or purchase the most expensive fare classes. Economy-class passengers would be directed to a new version of the Asia Miles scheme, which would allow customers to redeem air miles on Cathay, Dragonair and oneworld services but will offer minimal other perks. |

Cathay's FFP has traditionally already been premium focused, so I wonder what changes they're planning now? _________________ We miss you Nalini! |

They are going to emulate DL and UA for redeemable miles. May be unlike DL and UA which still require you to travel the specified miles to achieve elite status, Cathay might extend the redeemable miles to elite miles. |
