Star Alliance set to make Delhi’s T3, Mumbai’s T2 hubs
Oct 17, 2014
Come next year and India's swankiest terminals —Delhi's T3 and Mumbai's T2 — are all set to turn smarter for flyers. The world's largest airline group, Star Alliance, has identified these two airports as "potential seamless hubs" and may begin work with stakeholders in these places next year. The focus will be on making flight transfers between international flights and domestic-international flights a smooth experience for flyers, just like it is in mega hubs abroad.
"Air India, the home carrier at these two places, is now our member. It is possible to make airports seamless hubs with the help of the home carrier. If everyone agrees, we will go to all stakeholders at the airport like ground handler, airlines and identify the bottlenecks in transfers and offer solutions," said Justin Erbacci, Star Alliance's VP (customer experience). _________________ 11000 posts (and counting) on Airliners-India.

This is a good move from AI + *A - and should hopefully encourage all *A carriers to use AI exclusively for the domestic sectors . Both UA and LH currently still prefer 9W over AI. _________________ We miss you Nalini! |

Jet Airways is a mileage plus partner, hence the connecting services for UA.
AI has more flights from DEL and it would be better for LH and UA to start using AI soon. For LH they can use DEL as a connecting hub for flights to HYD, CCU and AMD, the three destinations most likely to have some loads. |

Plus BOM T-2 needs a proper flagship Star Alliance lounge. Right now, the new terminal has a mish-mash of lounges. I know that the terminal is still partly built, but I hope this in the plan...
Right now, the only sign that AI is part of Star Alliance in the terminal is the Star logo on the check-in counter display screens and on your boarding pass. There is almost no Star branding anywhere in the terminal! _________________ Boeing makes planes. Airbus makes videogames! |
