Merged entity to feature among top 20 in world: Thulsidas
Thulasidas has said the merger of Air India and Indian was essential and the new entity is expected to feature among the top 20 airlines of the world, according to a UNI report. He was speaking after his election to the Aeronautical Society of India’s ’Aviation Nite-07’ as president .
The CMD also revealed that post-merger Air India is expected to join one of the three networks of international carriers.

Talking about the new 777-200 LRs, he said there are many new features and is an aircraft tailor made for the route it is to operate on. It is a specific aircraft for a specific purpose. "Therefore, I guarantee that passengers will have a extremely superior inflight experience. No other rival airline has this aircraft and it is this aircraft that will take Air India back to its old days of glory." The IFE itself has about 800 hours of programming and will be used to enhance revenue from advertising. Added to this will be internet services. Thulasidass also said that after Boeing stopped "Connexion", Air India had found an alternate service provider for this. Once again, Air India will be one of the few airlines offering this service.

He added that industrialist Ratan Tata has himself selected the first class seats for the new aircraft which would be exquisite and superior to the competition.

On the mascot for the merged airlines, he said Air India’s ’Maharaja’ would be the automatic choice as Indian does not have a mascot, he said.

On its cargo service, Tulsidas said Air India has already converted two of its A310 aircraft for this purpose and four more would be converted.
There was also proposal to convert 2 B747-300s. Six B737-200 with Alliance Air is also being converted for the cargo service. With this, Air India cargo will be a top class airline.

Not just the A380. Rumors are flying of something more. MUCH more! And even talk of a A320 line in India (Kanpur) as an offset.

Now when is the 1-2-3 deal with the US goin to get out of the way? Hope that happens before Paris.

And i dont see any A380 interest, he clearly states they cant even fill a 427 seat 744s.

Is there is any plan to have an Airbus A380 in the fleet?

Hmmm. A380? Why not? But at present, I believe, we needed to induct a larger number of aircraft than an aircraft of the capacity of an A380. But it will be difficult to have the desirable load factor on the super jumbo, unless we can become major hubs like Dubai or Singapore. On a Boeing 747, we have 423 seats, but even they don't go full. We can always look at it (Airbus A380), but there is no immediate requirement.

Not dismissed outright. He says Why not.

Roy....Whats this on A320 line.
