I was studying Go Air's current network and sorry to say it is one mish mash which doesn't make any sense for the most part.
Strong in Port Blair, Pune and Goa and J and K and among the Metros on BOM-DEL and BOM-BLR , that is pretty much it.. Huge gaps in the South, strong in the UP Bihar Jharkhand belt but that area has seen too much capacity addition recently by other players
Quite a few one /two flight wonder stations... Leh, Nagpur, Jaipir, Kochi etc...
Just my 50 paisa worth!!! |

GoAir to firm up international plans in next few months
Mar 2, 2014
GoAir expects to complete the route feasibility study for its proposed international operations within a few months, sources said.
The Nusli Wadia-promoted private carrier, which currently has 18 aircraft, will automatically become eligible for overseas operations in July when it is expected to induct the 20th aircraft.
After this, the airline will approach the government for necessary approvals, sources said.
"At present we are carrying out a route feasibility study towards our goal of flying international, which we expect to complete in the next few months," GoAir sources told PTI here.
The airline recently inducted 18th aircraft and with two more joining the fleet between April and July, it will become eligible to fly international.
The routes being evaluated are spread across Southeast Asia and the Gulf, the sources said, adding, "we will do only those sectors which have a short turnaround time, as a large part of the operations will remain domestic."
The airline plans to operate three-four overseas destinations to begin with, and then scale it up.
As a part of its three-year business plan, the airline will deploy up to 10 per cent of its capacity on the international routes, GoAir chief executive Girgio De Roni had said last year. _________________ 11000 posts (and counting) on Airliners-India.

It is likely to be restricted to BOM & DEL only
BOM - DXB / DOH / MCT
DEL - DXB / MCT / TAS / KTM / ALA
all subject to ministerial allotments
The latest bilateral amendment with DXB should help, however, all airlines are likely to apply to the ministry for additional frequencies to DXB and as per the latest norms which are being discussed, the decision on whom to allot the seats or frequency will be a function of their domestic capacity in which Go air would lose out to the biggies |

GoAir offers biz class upgrade for Rs 999 for women flyers
March 06, 2014
GoAir Thursday announced a special scheme for women travellers, offering upgrade to business class for Rs 999, to mark the International Women's Day which falls on March 8 every year.
The offer will remain valid for three days starting from tomorrow, the airline said in a release here.
Women travellers constitute nearly 23 percent of the total airline passengers' traffic.
The upgrade, which is at a 60 percent discount than the usual price, is applicable on all GoAir direct flights, operating across 21 airports, it said.
The Nusli Wadia-promoted airline offers eight business class seats in its aircraft.
Besides more leg space, a priority check-in and deplaning and complimentary refreshments are the additional facilities that GoAir provides its business class passengers.
"We are excited that GoAir can bring women travellers to choose a service that is sensitive to their needs of comfort, privacy and convenience at a highly affordable value. We strongly believe that GoBusiness as a proposition completely befits the needs of contemporary women travellers," GoAir chief commercial officer Girish Nair said.

Honeywell signs MoU with Air India, GoAir to provide safe runway technology
March 14, 2014
US-based technology firm Honeywell has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Air India and GoAir, two of India’s leading airliners, to implement its proprietary software that helps make air travel safer and mitigates the risk for accidents on the ground.
The technology in question is called SmartRunway/SmartLanding, a tool that uses Global Positioning Satellite (GPS) information and airport/runway data to help pilots better determine the best way to taxi, takeoff, and land commercial jet airplanes. The technology also helps monitor the other runways at an airport, and can better assess the proximity of planes to each other on the ground, thus reducing the potential for crashes or run-ins on airport tarmacs.
GoAir’s agreement with Honeywell is in the area of fuel preservation and cutting back on energy expenditures. Honeywell will assist the airliner in monitoring its EGTS (Electric Green Taxiing System) system, which is what its planes use to taxi to and from the boarding gates and runways. In a statement, GoAir CEO Giorgio de Roni said that the company is always on the lookout for ways to cut costs, so the agreement with Honeywell simply made good business sense. _________________ 11000 posts (and counting) on Airliners-India.

Very good start, I shall bookmark your blog for further reading. You might want to fix this sentence though:
Quote: | since it is only an aircraft short, having completed 5 years of flying in 2005-06. |
to 'flying since 2005-2006.' _________________ Yeah. |

They plan to go international as soon as they get permission. They have been lobbying to get the 5/20 rule waived but I think it will be waived the moment they have their 20th bird in the fleet. Just being Murphy for them
They are looking at shorthaul international, flying during the night, but I doubt they would be able to make it a successful prepossession
Thanks for the kind words about the blog. Bear with me if I write about travel and food, which I intend to. One is already out - a review of a restaurant in Pune
Hopefully over the weekend, I can complete my next one - The Q story - which evaluates the Q400 network of SG. Shall post the link in relevant thread |

Wonderful analysis on the G8 network Ameya sir, looking forward to a lot more from you !
They've quietly built up solid networks, interms of destinations from BOM and DEL.
Unfortunately, as you've written, they're an Indian airline after all, and eventually will get to a point (2015 here) when they start growing madly.
Hopefully they manage to handle this a little better then the rest. _________________ Causal Determinism : We are hardwired to need answers. The Caveman who heard a rustle in the bushes and checked out to see what it was, lived longer than the guy, who assumed it was just a breeze.

Go Air to seek international traffic rights
May 20, 2014
Low-cost carrier Go Air would seek international traffic rights from the Civil Aviation Ministry for flying to foreign destinations, a top official of the airline said.
"We are expecting to get delivery of our 20th aircraft in July. After that, we shall approach the Civil Aviation Ministry for getting international traffic rights," Giorgio De Roni, CEO of Go Air, said at a news conference Tuesday.
For international operations, the airline would have to complete five years of domestic operations and possess a fleet strength of a minimum of 20 aircraft, he said. |

GoAir Plans to Increase Capacity by 21 Per Cent in 2014-15
June 08, 2014
GoAir plans to enhance capacity by 21 per cent in this fiscal year (2014-15) by expanding its route network across metro and non-metro cities and higher aircraft utilisation.
"We are planning to increase capacity by 21 per cent, offering over 8.5 million seats in the current fiscal," GoAir chief executive Giorgio De Roni told PTI in Mumbai.
GoAir operates over 900 flights a week to 21 domestic destinations with a fleet of 19 aircraft. It is set to add delivery of one more aircraft in July.
"We will soon achieve the 20 aircraft size. This will make us eligible to fly abroad as per the 5/20 rule. We expect to fly international in the first half of next financial year," he said. |

This once unheard, rare route now has more capacity than even the delhi segment. Hope airlines explore more such markets with direct connections. |

GoAir in Talks to Sell Stake to Foreign Airline -- CEO
July 8, 2014
GoAir is in talks to sell a stake to a non-Indian airline to raise funds for its expansion plans as it joins other carriers seeking to take advantage of liberalized investment rules in the South Asian nation.
"We are working on a strategic partnership with a foreign airline. We are open to giving equity," Giorgio De Roni chief executive officer of Go Airlines (India) Ltd. told The Wall Street Journal Tuesday.
Mr. De Roni said the management of GoAir will forward its recommendations to the airline's owner, the Wadia Group.
"There is no deadline to take a decision. We are under no pressure," he said.
He said the carrier has no plan for an initial public offering.
Raising funds through selling a stake to a partner would give GoAir more money for new aircraft. The airline is slated to start taking delivery of 72 Airbus A320neo planes from 2016.
"GoAir wants to play a bigger role in the Indian aviation market in the coming years," said Mr. De Roni.
The airline plans to sell its first new planes to a leasing company and then lease them. The so-called sale-and-lease-back model of aircraft financing is common in the airline industry.
Mr. De Roni said GoAir is planning to begin flights to overseas destinations during the fiscal year that starts next April.
The airline—which began operations in 2005—will get its 20th A320 jet in the next few months, qualifying it to start overseas flights. The Indian government stipulates that Indian carriers need to complete at least five years of local operations and have a fleet of at least 20 aircraft before they can offer international flights.

Clearly GoAir is under pressure to increase the number of flights and cities. Until now, their go slow approach has worked well, with only Indigo truly expanding, they did not have to worry about any other airline. But with Air Asia and the new Tata airline coming in, their market share will be reduced unless they change their tactics.
I am not sure if it is good or bad for Indian carriers, with so much excess capacity, we could see atleast one more carrier go under, most likely, Spicejet. |

GoAir selects Accelya's revenue accounting solution
July 16, 2014
Private airline GoAir today said it has selected Accelya's 'Revera Next' solution to automate its revenue accounting process.
GoAir chose Revera Next to address its current challenges in revenue accounting and assurance as well as to prepare for future business changes, a company statement said here.
Accelya is a provider of financial and business intelligence solutions to the airline industry.
Being a budget carrier, GoAir had been following standard revenue accounting practices. Until now, the airline was receiving the information from its passenger service systems and processing it in-house, it said.
In order to move to the next level, GoAir was looking at a revenue accounting system that could help it overcome potential challenges in the area of revenue integrity and assurance as the airline accelerates further after reaching its highest ever market share in May 2014, the release said. |

GoAir mulls setting up MRO facility at Nagpur
July 21, 2014
GoAir today said it is mulling setting up an aircraft maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) facility at Nagpur, a top airline official said.
"We are looking at the new government's policy for the aviation sector before taking a final call on the MRO issue," GoAir chief executive Georgio De Roni said after announcing the second non-stop flight service to Kolkata from Nagpur, scheduled to take off from July 23.
GoAir will be acquiring 72 new aircraft over the next seven years and the MRO will serve the purpose of maintenance of its aircraft, he said adding that the plan to set up the facility at Nagpur is due to its geographical location.
He, however, ruled out night parking of GoAir aircraft at the Nagpur Airport. |

Corporate business helps GoAir increase revenue, market share
GoAir has a business class product called GoBusiness and sells only eight seats in the two front rows of its Airbus A320, keeping the middle seats vacant. The airline is also marketing this product amongst single women travellers and senior citizens who require extra attention. |
Think this should be the norm in indian aviation outside of a few routes like BOM-DEL where a real first class seat is needed. Having the first few rows with extra legroom and changing capacity of business class based on demand is exactly what most every euro airline does (except maybe BA) for inter EU flying. That said the comment about marketing to single women is just creepy (even if true). I wish India could move past this type of attitude. By the press stating this type of stuff it reenforces stereotypes. Many men and women the world over buy business class for more personal room. That should be the angle not some old school thing that a lady cannot sit next to a man (again even if its the reason - why say it) |

AI has launched a similar business class product on some domestic routes, if I recall correctly.
Not many single woman passengers will be willing to pay the business class fare just to have an empty seat next to them, unless the employer pays for it, which is rare for domestic flights. |

GoAir flies into black, plans foreign operations and FDI
Aug 11, 2014
GoAir CEO Giorgio De Roni told TOI that the airline had made a profit of Rs 100 crore in FY 2012-13. "The subsequent financial year 2013-14 was also profitable - all purely from operational side and nothing else (hinting that there was no sale and lease back earning) - but the figure was lower due to the fall of the rupee and the sharp rise in aviation turbine or jet fuel (ATF) price. India has the highest domestic ATF price globally. The first quarter of this fiscal was profitable and FY 2014-15 is set to be profitable," De Roni, the man behind the LCC's quiet turnaround, said.
While the LCC is not planning an IPO like IndiGo, it is talking to several foreign airlines for FDI. "(Those talks) are not for cash but for best practices, industry knowledge and network. We are keen on this opportunity and discussing with potential partners. We are looking for a long-term strategic partner," the CEO said. When asked by when would GoAir get an FDI Partner, he said that the process "may take some time" as the airline was in no hurry for funding.

India's DGCA grounds GoAir training chief
News
13-Aug-2014 10:00 AM
India’s Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) reportedly grounded GoAir's training director (TNN, 12-Aug-2014). GoAir said: "We confirm that we have received a show cause notice from DGCA related to training processes. As per normal procedure we are entitled to appeal, highlighting the reasons why we believe we have not been disrespectful of any regulation. We have preliminarily and informally shared our views with DGCA. A meeting with the authority is expected to take place within the end of this week and we are confident we can fully clarify our position." As previously reported by CAPA, the DGCA reportedly issued show cause notices to 13 GoAir pilots and the carrier, with the DGCA noting that the pilots did not fulfil the necessary training requirements. Following routine check of documents, the DGCA found the 13 pilots, some of whom had been on leave for a long period and consequently missed the periodic training programmes, were allowed to continue to fly. |

If GoAir is indeed guilty of letting pilots fly without completing the mandatory training - it's definitely a breach of judgement and something that the airline needs to be penalized for. that being said, the DGCA is supposedly a cesspool of inefficiency/ corruption (witness our loss of US Cat1), so I wonder if they're barking up the wrong tree? _________________ We miss you Nalini! |
