Currently in the UPA, and among its constituent partners, the DMK is supposed to be the most demanding.
Grapevine says that the DMK at times comes up with the most unreasonable demands and does it by holding out the threat of withdrawing support. UPA usually caves in.
DMK was at its unreasonable best especially during the time of cabinet formation when it wanted the top and key posts. That the Congress managed to beat it off is an interesting story.

About S** TV wanting to get into the aviation business, is a story with many twists. Political observers say it is linked to stakes in the proposed expansion of Chennai airport and making a killing out of the anticipated boom in real estate in Chennai and around the airport. This is the next racket where the group will now want to set up ancillaries and start grabbing real estate big time. To the outside world it will look legitimate as it is under the garb of business interests, but the truth is .... money and business interests.

If this group manages to start an airline, expect it to want preferential treatment and rights to fly abroad and more trouble.

(S** TV Group, is extremely powerful and has currently cornered 3/4 of the cable TV business. It is run by the nephew of the reigning Tamil Nadu CM. Is also the brother of current tELEcOM Minister Mr. Maran, whose claim to fame recentlty was openly threatening Ratan Tata over rights to Tata Sky.)

This is how the political dons in this state survive.
The autorickshaw business is another. Most owners of autos in Chennai are political dons. Thats why a crackdown on errant meters is always a joke.
Money is also made bu auctioning the right to get autorickshaw licences. The highest bidder has to shell out a huge commission and its all done with the transport department looking the other way.

Just to add to the above, Kalanithi Maran is #349 in Forbes rich list and I believe India’s 20th richest man (a dollar billionaire)
His brother is Dayanidhi Maran, Minister for Communications and IT.

Lets bring in some perspective here: The Sun Group is merely talking of gettin 2 Corporate Jets, both Bombardier series CL600's: one new and onew second hand for PERSONAL use of the DMK's top honchos.

Newspapers owned by some political rivals turned this news into something else: that they were starting an airline!! Has anyone thought about how anyone could operate a domestic scheduled airline with corporate jets? Has anyone considered the fact that they havent approached anyone for an AOC or anything?

This is creating a mountain out of a molehill.

Whats the big deal in that ? They'll start off with a lot of publicity and glamour and then quietly get out without most people realising that the airline ceased ops 5 months ago ! Or maybe it'll remain in the newspapers only

Jaya Air?

The rate at which Jaya Amma is going about creating an all-India presence and desperately forming a Third Front politically, she may be joined by two more Jaya aunties in thte operations of Jaya Air!!!

Jaya Bachchan and Jaya Pradha. (the 2 were there at Amma''s recent UP rally).

It could either just be a lot of Jaya hot Air Wink
or
Jaya hot air balloon operations Wink

AIADMK chief Jayalalithaa has questioned the ‘‘urgency shown’’ by the Director General of Foreign Trade in clearing the purchase of two aircraft at a cost of Rs 236.94 crore by Sun TV network recently.
The application submitted on December 12, 2006 had been cleared on January 5, 2007 in a ‘‘lightening speed’’, she said in a statement, says a UNI report.
‘‘The people would now understand the reasons put forth by DMK President M Karunanidhi during the state assembly polls that the parties ruling at the Centre should rule in the state also,’’ she said.
The Sun TV network owned by the Maran brothers purchased two eight-seater Bombardier Challenger 605 last month from Canada.
Unofficial reports say Sun TV is interested in a small fleet of the Airbus A318, which might make it the first operator of its type in Asia, for passenger use.
