A kINGFISHER RELEASE SAYS THAT Kingfisher Airlines may well be in the final stages of firming up a business plan to connect Pune with Mumbai. If the plan materialises travelers may make the trip in 19 minutes.
Airline officials say that the plan involves utilizing the respective racecourses of the two cities and 15-seater choppers, which would make a total of six daily flights. Initially the chopper service was being planned as an exclusive service for Kingfisher's first class passengers. But with the Indian Air Force continuing to block additional flights between 6 am and 10 am at Pune, Kingfisher has sensed the extra demand from a booming metropolis and decided to convert the chopper service into a full fledged scheduled passenger service. |

19 minutes is too quick for a helicopter. I think it will take around half an hour atleast. _________________ Save Maharashtra! |

Does the UB group currently own any choppers? If they're planning to buy some, maybe they'll buy something fast that can make the journey in a short time. As the crow flies, the 2 cities are probably just a 100 kms apart (I'm guessing here), so 20 minutes does not sound very fast. |

The distance between the airports is 124 kms. At an average cruising speed of 265 km/hr, a chopper should take just below 30 minutes. _________________ Save Maharashtra! |

Are GA/CA operators allowed to use racecourses for such operations willy nilly? The DGCA takes a very severe view about non designated CA premises being used.
The Ruias from Essar built a helipad on the rooftop of their HQ ten years ago (right next to the BOM race course) but were diallowed from being able to fly to their own roof top with their own chopper by the DGCA apparently. I think the good Mr Kingfisher might have to use his <watt> to pull this one off. His involvement in horse races may help??
Its all gone quiet, so I expect its in the too hard basket. Any one heard anything lately? |

Talking about helicopters, Air India is seriously thinking of reviving such a service in the metros only. It will be an add-on for F and J passengers.
This will compliment the limousine service AI is firming up for F and J pax.
They did have a very shortlived Nariman Point to airport helicopter service once. |
