Yup!!! The famous ISP and US based portal American Online (AOL) has finally invaded the India webspace. They have launched the Indian version of AOL, not Internet services.
Check it and register your choice of id as many people are still not aware of it. www.aol.in

Regards

I downloaded it(messenger) , but not friends as of yet.
Actually American Online is the name of the organization. So, a brand exists and enjoys a good market goodwill worldover so, why to take chances by launching IOL? It's the same as Canada Dry cold-drink being launched as India Dry. No offences to anyone...
Moreover, AOL got it's domain as .in, which I like a lot.

I doubt whether the messenger will gain popularity as all users have Yahoo messenger /Google talk. I dpnt thonk anyone would like migrating to new software as the current 2 are doing the job pretty well

We were just kidding.

But on the other hand Canada dry does not reflect on Canada as much as AOL reflects on America, in a sense that at the beginning of Internet revolution AOL company created a brand to reflect as Internet in America is synonymous with America Online.

So it does not quite seem appropriate. Canada dry might be bringing the essence of Canada to other countries, whereas America Online in India ... Hmm!

Honestly, nothing other than Canada Dry was striking my mind...
I think with time AIM (AOL Instant Messenger) will surely gain popularity amongst the Indians...Lets hope for the best...
BTW good to see most of you were able to get the id's of your choice...

Might seem like a silly question, but is it case sensitive?

AIM (AOL IM) is America's most popular IM client - it's market share there far exceeds Yahoo or MSN or GTalk. It's only in Asia & Europe that MSN/Yahoo are popular and AIM is not.

I know this, but in India, people will be reluctant to switch to AIM because it can't be guaranteed that all their friends will shift to AIM too. This is just my opinion.

Hey! Most of us are now registered with AOL India... the same will be the case with your friends provided they are aware of it.

Yeah, But i doubt how many of us will like shifting all our contacts to AOL messenger. The opposite party shld also have downloaded AIM.

Anyways, I am more than satisfied with Yahoo messenger & Google talk. As of now I do not plan to download AOL messenger Smile
