Big airlines shop for small jets

P R Sanjai in Mumbai

The country's scheduled domestic carriers are ordering over 150 small jets, which will be delivered in the next two to three years.

Carriers like Indian, Jet Airways, Kingfisher Airlines and Paramount Airways, apart from a host of start-up airlines, are sewing up deals to acquire 50-70 seater aircraft for less congested routes.

I agree there is a market for 50 seaters especially props to service the shorter haul T3 markets.

However i disagree with the rationale of getting 70-90 seat RJ's in the majors context. The CASM is just too high.

The only airlines that can easily integrate a 90 seater like the E190 are Indian/Alliance and Kingfisher. For a cash strapped Jet/S2 etc it will be suicide!

Do airlines in India care about CASM? Any case studies? Any references? Please guide!

No they dont! Rolling Eyes

They just put together a fleet of aircraft from either manufactureur (selected after careful elimnation after hours of trying them out on FS2004) and then decide stations/routes based on a lottery system.

You sure Kingfisher has the funds too Smile
True Turboprops like the ATR42s are quite suitable for NE.

So U seriously think that these guys are so sophisticated? FS2004 is more advanced stuff. May be using the FS which came with DOS3.0 ..
