American Boeing wins IAF heavy-lift chopper deal
New Delhi, Oct 29 (PTI)
US defence major Boeing has won the deal to supply 15 heavy-lift helicopters to the Indian Air Force defeating its rival Russian Mi-26 in the tender expected to be worth around USD one billion.
The Chinook CH47D has emerged as the lowest bidder in the tender and would be offered the deal to supply 15 of these helicopters to the IAF, Defence Ministry officials said here. _________________ 11000 posts (and counting) on Airliners-India.

Given India's recent order list, they don't trust the Russians for anything:
6 Lockheed Martin C-130J Hercules ✔
8 Boeing P-8I Neptune ✔
10 Boeing C-17 Globemaster-III ✔
22 Boeing AH-64D Block III Apache Longbow ✔
15 Boeing CH-47F Chinook ✔ _________________ 11000 posts (and counting) on Airliners-India.

It only means that the chor-brigade at the Ministry of Defence are getting bigger and better suitcases from the Americans than they got from the Russians. _________________ I don't know which is the more pampered bunch : AI's widebodies (the aunties) or Jet's widebodies (the planes).

Chinook is a well tested design from Vietnam era , it could carry medium field guns. Possible Eastern command will use them for transporting FH-77 Titanium field guns in rapid reaction formations. It is a wise choice. But Russian choppers are no less inferior. _________________ Sabya99 |

Boeing closes in on Indian Apache, Chinook deals
Boeing expects to sign contracts soon covering India’s planned purchase of its AH-64E Apache and CH-47F Chinook helicopters
India is currently in “final signature routing with the Ministry of Defence” for both its planned acquisitions, says Leanne Caret, Boeing’s vice-president, vertical lift. “We anticipate a contract for the Chinooks in the first half of the year, and the Apaches in the second half,” she adds.
Boeing has held its prices for the planned 22-aircraft Apache buy and 15-unit Chinook sale since submitting final offers in 2010 and 2009, respectively, Caret says. _________________ 11000 posts (and counting) on Airliners-India.
