Raj Rajaratnam, a man of enormous appetite - both financial and gustatory - will be headed to jail for fleecing investors of, well, billions!

Well, Indian Americans have now fully made it in the US. We are not only doctors and engineers and IT specialists and businessmen, but we are also criminals. And what criminals!! Only the best!

Best of luck, Raj! May you find true love in the slammer, and may you look good in vertical stripes!

I thought he was Sri Lankan, not Indian?

Anyway, kudos to the American justice system which sees to it that even rich b***d's like him don't get away with their crimes.

You are indeed correct. He is Sri Lankan born. Well, I guess we're not claiming him as one of our own then. Dodged a bullet there!

While Rajaratnam is indeed Sri Lankan, his cronies that passed him insider information include Indian Americans like Rajat Gupta, Anil Kumar, and Rajiv Goel.

Interesting coincidence is that the US Attorney prosecuting the case is Preet Bahara.

Well, we're back on. Corruption Indian style brought to US shores, and then supersized for the local market.

Yup, the sad part is that guys like Anil Kumar and Gupta were so rich already. Kumar was a partner at McKinsey while Gupta was McKinsey's managing director. Gupta later went on to be on the boards of Goldman Sachs and Proctor & Gamble among others.

Total idiocy on their part to leak information to guys like Rajaratnam. Listening to some of the taped conversations it's disgusting to hear them mixing dropping insider details on AMD and talking about how one of the friend's wife was sleeping around.

Here in Silicon Valley the scandal has hit many circles as Anil Kumar and Rajiv Goel were both from the valley and there are rumors that other valley Indians may be involved as well.

What the hell is THAT supposed to mean? Do all Tamils look like to you?

A very unfortunate post on your behalf....

Also, the initial poster doesn't even bother to check what original nationality the person is before posting his drivel.

But then again, he is built like an Adonis....

Rajaratnam's shenanigans were apparently wiretapped. It's amusing to hear him on the phone tell his cronies how to evade the long arm of the law. If only Indian criminal investigation agencies tapped the phones of every politician, and if the Judicial system acted promptly in India, all those SOBs would be in jail. PeePee would be sharing a latrine with 20 others instead of peeing all over the Indian taxpayer!

An interesting article on Preet Bharara, the federal prosecutor who got Rajaratnam convicted.

Rajat Gupta gets two years in jail for insider trading!

Sad really! But full marks to the US justice system which spares no wrongdoer no matter how well connected, unlike some other 'Democracies'!

Anyone else feel like this whole episode is looking like a low budget Bollywood movie shot abroad? Just about everybody in the foreign country -- be it US or Switzerland or Australia, is Indian. And like all Indians, they do Bhangra in weddings. Rolling Eyes

Laughing Laughing

Sure looks that way in the eyes of the Indian media who don't seem to care for anything non-Indian.

Reality is that there are crooks everywhere and in every nationality, and some of them can teach our Indians a thing or two.

Precisely. Stupidity is not relegated to any one ethnicity.

As long as these guys were doing well, they were Americans, not even NRIs. But the moment they are caught doing something stupid, suddenly they are Indians and their "Indian mentality" is showing up! Even if they come from Sri Lanka.. Rolling Eyes Wink

There are lots of non-desi Americans who get caught in insider trading, Enron officials for example. What baffles me is that Rajat Gupta did not even need the money, why would he put his career at risk.
