Freewheelers face a bumpy ride at airports

KOLKATA: Better late than never. This must be the resolution for the airline companies before charging passengers for misusing the wheelchair facility meant for the sick and the physically-challenged at airports.

Airline companies have for a long time complained of passengers unnecessarily occupying wheelchairs at airports when they don’t need them. There are reports of passengers faking ill-health to take advantage of the service and the number of such cases is high during any security alert or flight delay.

Shame on people who do this.

Quoting the DNA report
“We have at least three passengers per two flights who fake it. On several occasions, we have had wheelchair passengers walking off the aircraft. We would like to term our carrier, a ‘miracle airline’. We have cured so many people!’ said a SpiceJet official.

So Ms/Mr Spicejet Official is an medical expert eh!

My parent is a cardiac patient since 15 odd years after surviving a severe heart attack.

Can walk fine, climbing down the stairs is not an issue. Climbing up is an absolute NO, NO. Health is delicate, but one might not realize it just by watching. Sometimes it also becomes an issue of self esteem where help at every step is not sought for (e.g. climbing down).

Couple of trips to US has also been made (4 hops), which would be practically impossible if not for wheelchair and attendant service.

I think Spicejet Official needs to be considerate and look outside of his box a bit. BTW, does not SG charge for these services , then what the heck are they complaining about.
