Kingfisher Airlines has announced the launch of conveniently timed, direct flights from Mumbai to Nagpur, Indore and Guwahati.
With the launch of services on these three new sectors, Kingfisher Airlines now connects 28 cities with 163 flights a day with 26 brand new aircraft.
The new services are Mumbai-Nagpur and Mumbai-Indore and Mumbai-Guwahati.
The Mumbai-Guwahati flight will be the longest non-stop flight offered by Kingfisher. The flying time is approximately 3 hours and 30 minutes.

What is the longest flight within India anyway? At one time Air Deccan had DEL-DIB-GAU-DEL on some days and DEL-GAU-DIB-DEL on other days.

If there are non-stop flights from Delhi to Trivandrum or Cochin, they would presumably be the longest non-stop flights wholly within India.

Russia presumably has longer flights (Moscow-Vladivostok perhaps). I have once been on a 5-hour non-stop flight from SFO to EWR in the US, but there might be a few longer ones even if you don't count Alaska and Hawaii.

Good to see increased connectivity to secondary cities like Nagpur, Guwahati etc. While these routes might not attract the kind of premium traffic on the metro sectors, I think there's still enough traffic to make this sectors viable.

AIr Sahara used to operate DEL COK TRV DEL but now has changed it to DEL COK TRV and v.v (no more non stop TRV DEL).
IC also operated briefly a thrice weekly COK DEL non stop in the evening.

Flying time for COK DEL is only about 3 hours, so BOM GAU should be the longest operating as of now.

But a little known fact is that it was yet another airline which started COK DEL non stop operations on a regular basis (albiet for a very brief period)- PARAMOUNT AIRWAYS.

How about S2's DEL-KOL- Port Blair?? I am sure that it must be one of the longest. Well before DN both Sahara and Indian offered DEL-GAU and beyond. Sahara went to DIB whereas Indian went or ratther still goes to Imphal.

IT had a hopping service from IXJ to PNQ, that took you all around the country .. IXJ-AMD-CJB-BLR-PNQ a total travel time of 8.5 hrs almost!! But the IT site does not have the IXJ-AMD sector listed anymore. In fact there are no IT flights out of IXJ.

BLR IMF flight via HYD CCU n GAU takes 7 hrs of travel time.

plus this strange flight (IT 312) from SXG to BOM which seems to halt ind elhi for over 3 hrs making the total travel time 6h 20m!! Can someone please clarify this 3 hr layover?

I had high hoeps from KF initially, but los hope in them after I saw their new scheduling which throws up some intersting routings which are being sold

for eg: PNQ-BLR-CJB-AMD-NAG and vv with a 0615 departure ex PNQ on a A319!

could use it for BLR and CJB, but imagine flying to NAG!

Given it kind of overflies PNQ on the way from CJB to AMD, I don't think the intent is to cater to the PNQ-NAG or PNQ-AMD market.

But CJB-AMD is an interesting segment, should be enough business travel between these 2 cities. Is there any existing service on this sector? And anything existing on AMD-NAG?

Coimbatore in addition to Business people has a large population of Gujaratis mostly traders settled since long in fact they occupy some of the elite parts of the city.

I think CJB - AMD is served by KF and DN (Via bangalore ). I faintly remember Jet airways advertising connections to AMD Via Bombay couple of years back but not direct till date.

About couple of years back when i was there in Coimbatore, the options that you could take were:
1. There's a train from Coimbatore to Kalyan. Change it there to AMD.
2. A direct train to Rajkot (I am not sure if it runs now thought) From there change for AMD.

Cheers

Jet airways did sell for some time as a single flight CJB AMD via MAA and BOM and v.v .

CJB AMD , there used to be three trains all originating from Kerala and going to AMD and beyound via CJB.

However after the opening of Konkan railway, gradually all these trains were rerouted via CCJ and IXE instead of the much longedr route via CJB.

The Coimbatore-Rajkot train runs once a week. It runs through AMD (or ADI for the railways).
There are a two daily trains from Coimbatore to Mumbai as well.

I'm guessing these may have been pre-approved earlier on - remember the earlier break up of how many services applied for vs. approved?
