Any truth to AI differing Deliveries of the 772LR’s?
I think this warrants a separate thread than the AI News.. I know there some insiders on here, can anyone confirm the rumors Sean posted on anet of possible halt to the AI’s new aircraft order?
If the rumors are true then it looks like DL will take the 772LR's...
God Help as All, AI becomes even more obsolete... |

Official line is because of seat defects and deferred delivery which will be set right in May. ...i.e. the seats are being fitted in in May.
But why Jaysit is suddenly talking about a new decision and A340-300s?
Rumour is a rumour, but no arguments with Mr. Mendis (B747-437). |

Also, the next rumour was that DL would take the LR's already at the boeing field. Back to zero, happens only in the land of the babus.
Still only a RUMOUR. |

Does it mean that IC will also have to reevaluate it's 42 a/c order? If it is so why has AIX taken delivery of B738s?
AI is in desperate need of new aircrafts. This whole process will set it back by 5 years. In 2011, we will still be seeing AI A310s flying. _________________ Save Maharashtra!

Why does a reevaluation of the 777 deal have to be done post AI-IC merger? The 777 orders have nothing to do with the latter. Its not like IC have an existing fleet of Airbus wide-bodied jets that would cause a 777 misfit in the merged fleet. If anything, AI could re-evaluate its 737-800 purchase (or the A320 purchase) and decide on one single-aisled type for its fleet.
Once again, stupidity reigns supreme. |

That is if the rumour is true. I'm personally skeptical given the totally hare-brained minds needed in AI/IC to come up with such a suggestion. While we might have a bunch of thick babus, I feel/hope that we're not gone to this extent! |

Have a registration allocated shouldn't matter. They will just use it for whatever aircraft they choose to buy in the future. |

Something simple should set this at rest.
Air India and Indian have negotiated the bank loans quite a while ago and its simple that there is no question of aircraft delivery till the money is in. The first tranche of loans for 12 777s has been sealed, while for IA its for the first 10 aircraft. This includes the aircraft registration.
The only thing that the GoI is looking at now is to try and merge the loans by trying to renegotiating the whole thing with the lenders. Should be simple as the GoI will ensure sovereign guarantee.
A few new planes have come for both AI and IA and so using this simple argument, would think that its safe to conclude that the deal is still on.
IA is also going ahead finalising the IFE content for its A319s and A321s. It is now going to look into the headphones for J and Y. For Y it is to be disposable headphones in the range of a few lakhs, while for J it is about 33,000 and reusable sets. Both are stereo.
AI is also looking at vendors who will look after cabin upkeep in the new aircraft, and is also close to finalising the tools vendor for the GE90 engines.
Also, Alliance Air is also geting ready for a makeover and is looking at 16 New 50-seater turboprops as outright purchase or lease. This is in addition to 6 CRJs. So after the three ---IA, AI and AIX, CD will be the fourth to go into the market aggressively and expand its all-India network.
So, wonder who is starting off all this bulls***anyway
**
The only rumour that I am willing to belive is that AI has been asked to bow out for a while and let Jet hog the limelight.
**
... and there was a large page advt in Chennai papers today by Indian. It has bagged the Readers Digest Award for most trusted airline. Just a few months ago it won the award in the same category at ITB, Berlin.
Surpriing as post-merger, Indian has been asked to lie low, and ehre we have it aggressively promoting its identity!!!! |

I won't comment anything more, although i've quoted the statement for a reason.
No cancellations will take place, AI and GoI will lose hell amounts of money if they cancel orders. There will be a delay only and as said in Anet, DL might take ALA and ALB while ALC will be painted as ALA and that will be AI's first aircraft. But still chances of AI getting the same birds though with delays which are inevitable _________________ http://www.myspace.com/avsatsworld

Even this can be turned on its head.
If Delta is "supposed" to be taking delivery of the first two birds, they have to be repainted all over again.
So what's preventing Air India from repainting the two birds, as one of the reason's for the temp grounding is supposed to be the awaiting of orders on the new livery?
And why would Air India suddenly want to dump the birds?
Huhhhhhhhhhhh!!!! |

Reevaluating the 777 deal
Hope this isn't one of those Air Indian, Air India jokes.
Anyway, Air India, after its two "emergency landings" is now supposed to be renamed as Scare India. |

What do you mean? Are you saying they should be painted in Delta livery by now if Delta is taking them? Remember that Delta is about to introduce a new livery and isn't going to paint them before that if in fact they are take delivery of them. Why waste time and money (whose money??) painting them white while waiting for either a new AI livery or DL? |

Jet, Kingfisher brace for dogfight in the US
http://inhome.rediff.com/money/2007/apr/18jetkf.htm
While its application to start US services is pending, Kingfisher is ready with an alternate plan to start services from the US to India, using its US subsidiary, Kingfisher International.
"The international flights of Kingfisher are going to be unique. The non-stop flights to the US will be having a bar and a social area for gathering for passengers to feel comfortable in ultra long-haul flights," said Vijay Mallya, chairman and CEO of Kingfisher, which is planning to start non-stop Mumbai-New York and Bangalore-San Francisco flights.
Hitesh Patel, executive vice president, Kingfisher, said the interiors of the US-bound planes would be a customised product. A special UK-based team is engaged in designing the interiors to make passengers feel comfortable. Interestingly, the first class and business class seats would be patented to Kingfisher. Globally renowned seat maker BE Aerospace is making special seats for Kingfisher.
Needless to say, Kingfisher is planning to deploy all foreign cabin crew on its US flights.
State-run carrier Air-India is also gearing up with its daily non-stop service to New York and Chicago by mid-June (before Jet's US foray) after taking the delivery of three Boeing 777-200 ER aircraft during first week of June. Air-India was planning to start its US service by April-end but postponed it following reschedulement of aircraft.
Not to be left behind, Air-India is also gearing up. S Venkat, executive director (finance), said coupled with interline agreements with international carriers and better timings, Air-India's US product would be the quickest service from India.
Venkat adds Air-India has tied up with in-flight entertainment company Thales to offer high-end and non-stop inflight entertainment while brand consultant Alia Group is designing a special onboard mood lighting which will make passengers feel fresh always.
Air-India has selected Italian interior major, Avio Interiors to install first, business and economy class seats on board for 23 B777s and economy class seats of 18 B737-800 aircraft.
At present, Air-India is operating 24 flights (one-stop services) a week to the US and will increase to 35 shortly. This includes relaunching the Los Angeles flight which was suspended earlier. |

Just an update: April 18, 2007
Called up Nariman Point again and asked for the PR Dept.
"Call again at 2 p.m please. as it is now lunch time. The time is now 1.35 p.m."
Asked for the PR email id and the guy relented. Said he would connect me and that if anyone answered they would be able to help me.
Stern sounding matron picked up this time.
Told her that there is definite news that the 777-LRs are being junked and that the information is pretty authentic as there are pictures of all three "grounded" LRs. Even told her that the third LR had a few red streaks on its tail and was all white, indicating an incomplete job.
Her tone definitely turned nasty. "There is no delay or cancellation. It is a scheduled delay. That's all."
Next thing now is that have been asked to get in touch with the chief PRO (of the two emergency landings fame).
Once again pushed hard for pictures, but this matron was tough. Her answer: "All your "questions will be answered in reply to the email you send. Thank you."
So guys, please be patient!!! |

Supposed to be heavy step ladder activity around the first two 777LRs.
Maybe Matt Cawby can confirm it. |

It was rumoured that the Seats from a particular manufacturer did not clear certain emergency tests, hence were rejected.

The aircraft will be joining the fleet in a phased manner. Here is a copy of the mail i got from Jitendra Bhargava.
Reference your attached mail.
This is not true. Air India will be taking delivery of all aircraft ordered. There has, however, been some delay in delivery of the aircraft because the seat manufacturer has not been able to deliver the seats in time. Induction of new aircraft will commence latest by first week of June 2007 in a phased manner.

The more stronger of all the rumours is that Air India got wind of Jet's new first class and Business cabins and developed cold feet.
Hence there was a "reworking of certain features", but the "official reason was test reasons".
This is just like how IA has suddenly asked Airbus to add additional features in the IFE on the new Airbus after Vishwapathi Trivedi (IA's CEO) was travelling on a foreign airline and experienced its IFE. He then wanted IA's IFE to reflect this. So IA is getting a DVD channel fitted in at no extra cost. |

If this is indeed true, then it kind of makes sense to hold off as you don't want 2 a/c with different seating configuration within your fleet. Let's see what AI finally comes up with on the seating front. |

Oh! so this guy got the idea after traveling on foreign airline. May be these guys should be sent more often on checking out competitors product (jeez! should be marketing 101). Are'nt there people who are supposed to be doing this. |
