|
|
My first time ever posting from India, Bangalore today to be exact. Anyhow, seeing the recent SpiceJet int'l expansion got me to thinking that SpiceJet should launch an int'l hub at DEL.
Also wrote this up in short form on my analysis of SG's int'l expansion at Bangalore Aviation.
Basics:
Operate from T3 or add FIS to T1
Work with MoCA to create secure area in either terminal where international to international connex can happen w/out visa/permit.
DEL has about 50 domestic flights per day right now/
Switch over anything in the north to 2 or 3 daily flights with Q400 to feed int'l bank, or 737s where applicable. Retime domestic flts wherever possible to feed int'l banks, need to go up to 2x daily at minimum on most sectors, probably 3x daily on some.
Add the major Gulf and Southeast points,
Also Penang, Kota Kinabulu, Taipei, Hong Kong, Shenzhen, Xian with 738s.
Add major Central Asia stuff like Ankara, Baku, Tbilisi, Tashkent, et. al. wth 737s
Invest in a fleet of 15 737-700s. Use these to run DEL-PEK, PVG, ICN, MNL, CGK, and then DEL - SVO/DME, LED, WAW, KBP, CAI, IST, and other NE Africa points.
Time Asia bank to operate around midnight, and then time the return flights to arrive around noon. Westbound flights leave around noon, and return around midnight.
Basically make DEL into the PTY of Central/South Asia _________________ Follow me on Twitter: @TheABVinay

Personally I feel that DEL has shot itself in the foot as a viable hub due to the sky high fees.
Tag on the fees to each arriving and departing pax in transit, and suddenly alternatives might seem better. Of course for routes with no alternatives, anything will fly. _________________ We miss you Nalini! |

As Nimish mentioned DEL seems overdone because of its high cost structure ,
Also many of the routes you mention like DEL-SVO/MNL/ICN/HKGWAW seem way off for those 73Gs you want them to buy
Also why have them landing into DEL at midnight , passengers on short flights do not prefer landing at odd hours just ask anyone on this forum
What SG can do is start a hub at a relatively untouched market like MAA/CCU
Of the places you mention HKG [why do Shenzen when you fly to HKG] seems most practical from either MAA/CCU and definitly do able with their 738s/9
Also Guangzhou could be a market which has sincere industrial demand especially to MAA
Add to that MNL [not daily] and KUL
Of the central asian cities you mention not one has the potential to work year round barring Tashkent
Makes no point investing in the 73Gs when the goal is to Conservatively develop the market within a 5 hour radius
So in summary de focus an international hub of DEL and concentrate on MAA or CCU and start services from there to HKG/KUL/MNL/Guangzhou/Tashkent
Accordingly build domestic banks at MAA and CCU

I think MAA might be too far south - HYD/ NAG/ CCU might be better positioned?
But ultimately - if the airport is too expensive, then it can't hope to become a popular hub. Unless of course DIAL offers a special deal for an airline that wishes to set up a hub there (they had offered something to AI from what I recall). _________________ We miss you Nalini! |

Nimish, in the AI case its just a book transfer in SG or any other airlines case it will be a wire transfer to DIAL
Dont forget most of the major airport related operations are still with AAI

I see SG oflate adding a lot of capacity out of MAA and feel SG is larger than 6E i only MAA of all the metros. _________________ Rajeev |
