Annoyed with frequent delays and cancellations of flights, the government today said it will soon come out with new guidelines to ensure that airlines compensate passengers and are more accountable to them, says a UNI report.
The report quotes the Civil Aviation Minster Praful paTEL as saying, ‘‘We will formulate fresh guidelines for passenger-related issues like delays and cancellations which cause harassment to passengers.’’
His statement came in response to questions on the recent technical snags or inordinate delays caused to flights, including those of Air India and British Airways.
Asserting that the government will take ‘‘strict action’’, Patel said the ministry was studying all legal aspects, including the rules of International Air Transport Association (IATA) which govern the aviation sector across the globe.
‘‘There are enough ways to make the airlines accountable or penalise them and compensate passengers,’’ he said.

While I'm normally against govt interference, this falls into the space of policy setting, which is the govts. real role (rather than running animal husbandry departments Smile).

Hope there are some sensible guidelines drawn up that balance individual rights and airline rights.

If an Airline needs to cater to Pax accomodation during delays it'll never run as an LCC.
The GOI needs to have a Fair & Balanced policy in place.
