Quote: | PUNE: A frontline Sukhoi jet of the Indian Air Force ( IAF) crashed near this Maharashtra town Tuesday but the two pilots bailed out to safety, an officer said.
The crash of the SU-30MKI combat jet occurred around 1.30 p.m. "The pilots are safe," the officer said, adding that there were no immediate reports of damage or casualties on the ground.
The aircraft had taken off from the Lohegaon air base on the outskirts of Pune. It crashed at Wade-Bholai village, 20 kms from here.
Preliminary reports said that the aircraft crashed due to a technical snag.
This is the third crash of a Su-30 since its induction in 1997. |

do the tech guys know the impact of their action.... if Su-30MKIs start dropping from the sky, what to say of others....
I guess the track record of Mirages has been good so far.
also wondering that electronic media spends so much time splitting hairs on politicians. Why can't there be an indepth discussion on this kind of an issue. _________________ [url=http://openflights.org/user/aseemsjohri]

Its a little scary..these Sukhois are well known (notorious?) for their regular LOOOUD fly-bys over the Pune metro region..

3 aircraft losses in 15 years, the IAF has what, 100+ of these flying around?
Of course it's dangerous, the good news is only the aircraft was lost. The Su30MKI will be the main fighter aircraft of the IAF- with over 450 eventually if im not mistaken.
Until we find out what happened no point getting overly worried. The final investigation will hopefully find the cause, be it systems or procedures or birds or whatever. It's not a brand new aircraft, its been flying for a decade. Airframe loses are (unfortunately) inevitable, but not yet a cause for serious alarm. _________________ eP007 |
