The last count by Airports of Thailand Plc (AoT) yesterday showed 17 such planes, ranging from a Boeing 747 jumbo to an Airbus 300-600 and tiny propellers.
Seven of the planes belong to Orient Thai Airlines, three to Phuket Airlines, two each to Thai Sky Airlines and Thai Airways International, and one to Solar Air. The other two are training aircraft.
Among them, the most valuable aircraft still in running condition are THAI's two Airbus A300-600 wide-body jets, which were decommissioned after more than 20 years in service and await new owners.
Only three of the Orient Thai jets are in working condition, the rest having had their engines and parts removed.
All the aircraft owned by Phuket Air and the now-defunct Thai Sky have been stripped of useful parts _ engines, electronics, wiring _ for a long time.
It was not clear the type of Solar Air craft parked at Don Mueang, but the airline formerly operated commuter jets the size of the Saab 340A, which seats about 30 passengers. _________________ 11000 posts (and counting) on Airliners-India.

Shame to see working A300s go underwater - I hope there's no permanent damage! _________________ We miss you Nalini! |

There is no anticorrosion work on the cards. Don Muang is a boneyard. The planes shown are all going to be chopped up and sold as scrap. _________________ I don't know which is the more pampered bunch : AI's widebodies (the aunties) or Jet's widebodies (the planes).

The 2 TG A300-600Rs were intended to be sold to another carrier (as were apparently 3 Orient Thai aircraft, though that was unlikely). I doubt that will happen now. _________________ 11000 posts (and counting) on Airliners-India.

Unless its determined to be scrapped.....Mx follows a Storage schedule of Weekly/Forthnightly/Monthly/3 months/6 months/Annual to keep the Aircraft serviceable if needed back in flight. _________________ Think of the Brighter side !!! |
